This week was a big week for LGBT news and because we couldn't decide whether we should feature the bad or the good, we decided to go with both.

Check out 17 of the best and worst LGBT news stories of the week and then sound off on what you were most moved by, angered by, or happy about in the comments section below.

The effort to legalize gay marriage has passed a long-standing hurdle in the Maryland House of Delegates.

The House voted 71-67 Friday to give gay couples the right to marry.

After a week of speculation on whether proponents would gather the votes needed, lawmakers debated it Thursday evening.

Several amendments to the bill were rejected. They included creating civil unions and allowing parents to opt out of education programs that address same-sex relationships.

The measure now heads to the state Senate where last year it easily cleared the 47-member body. The governor has said he would sign it.

The resistance to the Colorado bill is proof that when cons say "Oh, I would support civil unions instead of marriage" they are LYING!

As for Cheney, maybe God appeared before him and told him that due to all the horrible things he's done, he has to do something like a thousand good deeds before he dies to get into Heaven or something like that.

I can't help but think he has some ulterior motive.

Personally I think he sees his mortality and wants to make a positive contribution to society. Lets not forget that his daughter Mary is gay.

No, Dick Cheney is only for gay rights because of his daughter Mary. He is unrepentant for everything he has done.

"Victoria Jackson gives bonkers interview" "bonkers" is redundant.

She's treated like a rockstar at CPAC. That's such a reflection of where the GOTP are. Scary.

If a washed-up minor former SNL performer like Victoria Jackson is the best celebrity endorsement that CPAC can get, then they are definitely bleeding and on the ropes. I think Victoria's sort of like Sarah Palin. Her fifteen minutes of fame were up a long time ago and she's definitely clawing for a lifebuoy to keep from drowning in the Sea of Obscurity.

The only things Christie should have vetoed are his lunch and dinner for about the next two years!

I agree wholeheartedly. He should stay out others private lives as well as stay away from whole pizzas, lasagnes and cheesesteaks.

As for Christie, put me down for November 28, 2015. What's your guess.

The story that I find the worse in these is the "Don't say Gay" in Tennessee. Will these people ever wake up. They are killing our youth with this. Then we wonder why these children are bullied. It starts at the top with the countries lawmakers.

The bill is horrific but the man behind it,Stacy Campfield, really scares me. He's living in the past to put it mildly. Michaelangelo Signorile was interviewing him for his radio show and Campfield actually said it was virtually impossible for straight women to contract HIV/AIDS from heterosexual sex! Imagine the damage he's caused. How much blood is on his hands? I'm not sure who I'm more pissed at-Campfield or the men and women who continually vote for him.

Stacy Campfield needs to be given more exposure in the media. His comments will eventually hang him. Even in Tennessee.

Rick Santorum has managed to make Dick Cheney look like a reasonable person. Wow. Just wow.

Well, Dick Cheney has always been for gay rights, seeing as his daughter is gay. While in office, he had to keep mum about it. But his support for gay rights does not, IMHO, outweigh all the other unreasonable things he says.

So great to see more and more states legalising gay marriage, cannot wait until it's legalised in the UK.

I may need to be corrected but doesn't the UK extend all the rights to their citizens under the term 'Civil Partnership'?
05:34 AM on 02/20/2012
Yes we do have civil partnership in the uk, which although it great, a lot of people feel that it's a second rate option. During the civil partnership ceremony, we aren't allowed to use the words wedding or marriage, or refer to each other as bride, husband, wife etc. Legally we aren't married we are 'civil partnered' and we don't have a wife or husband we have a 'civil partner'. The rights are almost the same, but essentially, it's not a marriage.
