Body Of Nicholle Coppler, Missing Since 1999, Recovered In Accused Rapist's Home In Ohio

02/19/12 06:21 PM ET  AP

Coppler
Nicholle Coppler's body was found in accused rapist Glen Fryer's demolished home.

LIMA, Ohio -- The skeletal remains of a 14-year-old Ohio runaway who went missing in 1999 have been found after the home where she was last seen was demolished, according to police.

The home was owned by Glen Fryer, who had been suspected in Coppler's death. The newspaper reports he was 55 when he killed himself in 2002 while awaiting sentencing for raping a girl.

The home was demolished after the state took possession due to unpaid taxes. Coppler's remains were the only ones found.

"I knew in my heart it was Nicholle," said the girl's mother, Krista Coppler, who now lives Florida. "I knew in my heart she never left that house."

Lima Police Chief Kevin Martin said the discovery means the homicide investigation is reopened. The newspaper reports that police have said Fryer had a link to human trafficking.

"Our goal is still the same: Try to get to the truth," Martin said. "Where exactly that will lead us I cannot say."

Lt. Jim Baker said detectives believe Fryer was involved in the death but that there also were other people. Police said other people knew the girl was in the house, and Lima police Maj. Richard Shade said at least two other people lived in the home with Fryer.

Krista Coppler said she doesn't feel the investigation was handled properly in 1999 but that police have since changed policy on runaways.

"If, in Nicholle's name, she can save some other girls, some good can come out of this," she said.

I hate reading stories like this. However, I'm happy her remains were found after so many years because it helps to give closure to the family. I'd be happier if there were stricker laws against sexual predators and no PC in prisons. America needs to get with it and stop giving leniency to these known, not suspected, criminals.

What's worse is, it is a proven fact that they cannot be rehabilitated. They lock 'em up counsel them, and when they can learn all the right answers and "parrot" them back, they are let go with guidelines to stay away from children, or populations they are a threat to...which they rarely do. Someone sick enough to do these sort of things needs killing. No excuses. I don't care WHAT made them that way. It doesn't change the fact that they are dangerous. A trial, their one appeal, and put them down. No muss, no fuss, NO MORE RAPES, No more murders by the SAME individual. And, they need to find the two that lived there, and take care of business with them, too. Just like that animal in Florida--those miscreants KNEW he had the child in there for days before she was killed. Unreal...

These evil beasts should be given a choice upon conviction, either choice being effective immediately: (1) A pistol with one round they can use on themselves. (2) Capital punishment (Now, not 10-15-20 years from now!) by whatever method is used in the state where convicted. "So you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you when you do what is right in the sight of God.” Deuteronomy 21

You and I think a great deal alike. Wait, that's GREAT MINDS. Oh well, makes too much sense, so it will never happen. Laws, now, don't make sense...they make excuses for the criminal.

Why in heaven's name do they release these monsters!!? They should get life sentences behind bars because they cannot be treated. They will rape and kill helpless children again after they're let out- this has been proven. We need to federally institute this law.

It's the U.S. Constitution and the rights its gives to EVERYONE! It started out with Earl Warren and the Miranda rights. Then came prison overcrowding and the courts ruled that some offenders must be freed. Then came cruel and unusual punishment (regardless of how cruel and unusual the crime was). Long before all of this was the insanity plea. Then if the police made a simple mistake the criminal was set free. There are probably dozens more instances where killers get out early, or not even punished. But the Constitution doesn't seem to say anything about the rights of innocents except the right to bear arms and they are trying to take that away. Go figure!
10:50 PM on 02/21/2012
Apparently children have no rights. Who is going to stand up and fight for them? It took women a long time to gain equal rights and they are still fighting for more equality, and are in fear of losing some of it with the current "representatives" and their insensitive bills. But they are adults and have a voice. Children cannot fight for their rights; it will take the adults to do it.

The Constitution gives a criminal the right to the presumption of innocence, until proven guilty, the right to a speedy trial, the right to representation, the right to plea his case in front of a jury of his peers, and one final one...the right to an appeal. It doesn't give them the right to be released. Liberal laws allow for that, and bleeding hearts that think no one should be killed. If we were killing the guilty fools for crimes like this, there wouldn't be prison overcrowding. Ought to be swift and the process shouldn't take 20 or 30 years to get done. And, ought to be all over the country every Saturday or Sunday, and broadcast so that people with similar ideas can see what happens and that i will, instead of doing the crime, and gambling on the time or punishment.
07:51 AM on 02/25/2012
We need to exercute them after one appeal. No sitting around for 10-15 years to life.. If their punishment was death, then let it be. They are not there by accident and are just taking up space. I know the Bible says [ do not kill ] but they have already taken a life. This is the only way to bring this carnage to an end or lessen it. I believe more murders will occur as the human mind freaks out for what ever reason it does. Innocent people need justice and so do their families. In the event of one of my children who killed some one if planned or accidental, I would be there for the exercution. I would always let them know I loved them and for them to make their peace with GOD. But I would never interfer in any quilty verdic they got for doing this Life can be tough at times. But there is a price to pay for a crime like this. We must get back to GOD, and HIS rules. Since so many have been taken out of public places it seems the killers think it is a free ride and it is not. In the past 50 years all kind of terrible things have been done to inocent people and let go free to do again. Stop with the carnage even with the execution taking place. . . .

Locally, the lawyer that defended the child rapist,torture-murderer Arthur Goode, unsuccessfully, ran for Mayor of our city and won. He became Mayor of a city that had an emergency fund of several million dollars.
The county had a pro-baseball park but he wanted one for the city that would require the purchase of all his family and friends slum lord property. The ball field never made money. The city is deeply in debt. The city finally gave it to the county.

It always amazed me that the voters would elect someone that tried to get Arthur off on technicalities. The child died a horrible death. Arthur got fried.

If people read, thought, and cared we would have better leadership.
No one cares beyond a cute jingle.

Kids are missing all over the country. The US Dept. of Justice states an average of 2,185 children are reported missing every day. Although not all are initially victims of predators, runaway children are marked for exploitation. Predators know exactly where to find them and how to manipulate and groom them. The statistics for American children who are at risk for domestic minor sex trafficking is between 100,000-300,000 annually. And those who work with this population know this is a low number. Watch and pray over your children. It's a cruel culture we live in.

The only good thing in this story is that the creep that was involved in the girl's disappearance and death did to himself what the state would have refused to do, and he will not be a threat to repeat.
07:31 PM on 02/21/2012
Too many of these stories are out there. I wonder if years ago people had it right when a young woman wasn't allowed out without a chaperon. What's scary is how many predators live among us.

That would not work. There are other ways to molest a woman or a child. I know it sounds terrible but death is the safe way of saving another victim. Even in jail. we often hear of an inmate that gets killled while in jail.

So many programs on TV showing women who willfully allow themselves to be exploited. Most are proud of their TV and movie performances. They call it art. Thanks, Hollywood.
08:18 AM on 02/25/2012
Woman run around half naked on TV and in the movies. This would turn on most predators. I am not putting down woman, but only making a statement. Women feel this is their right, but forget the consequences that goes with it. The world is out of control and we need to teach this to children, even in their younger years. I am a christian and believe in the safety of numbers. Do not let your self be caught in a place of isolation for this is where the prince of darkness hangs out. Meaning satan, who is alive and well. Most do not believe in him, but he is roaming this world just looking for trouble. His name is Lucifier and he hates GOD, and all of HIS creatues altho just a spirit he can and does bring destructin to any one he can. He can disquise him self as an angel of the light and does. Your Bible has all of the answers for ever lasting life.. Read it and learn how to be saved Better reading than any book you could ever read. Your life depends on it. . . . .

What was the Ohio Police's policy before they changed it- " Oh, we know where she is. She's a runaway and probably a no-good girl, so let her learn her lesson"? WTF were they doing?
08:53 PM on 02/21/2012
Try the Lima Police, not the Ohio Police. It was when the state took over the property that she was finally found. However, I agree with the sentiment of your post.

Heads need to roll over this, an FBI investigation needs to come in and clean house - too many other odd little circumstances around this area... too many. May Lady Justice rule the day and bring everyone involved to bright, burning light that destroys their very souls.

determination on the competency of the authorities.

Russ Marshall................Oh spare me! I'm a "lib" & I ALWAYS blame the endless string of men in the news for abducting, raping, & murdering women & children in this country! You may not see many posts to that affect because HuffPo moderators usually don't post my posts when I complain about that. I always post that I'm sick of the victims themselves, the police, the social workers, & the judges getting the blame. The only person to blame is the man who commits the heinous crime. All of these men should get life in prison w/out parole or the death penalty & the public should be calling their state legislators & telling them they want zero tolerance strict laws on abduction-rape-murders.

Thank you. I don't care what you label yourself; you are correct. Zero tolerance is definitely the answer!
