Rick Santorum: Global Warming Is 'Political Science'

By CHARLES BABINGTON   02/20/12 11:46 AM ET  AP

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Rick Santorum says President Barack Obama is pushing a radical environmental agenda that unwisely limits energy production and turns its back on science.

Santorum told voters in eastern Ohio on Monday that science is on the side of those who want to aggressively produce more oil and natural gas in America. He said the notion of global warming is not climate science but "political science."

Santorum said Obama and his allies want to frighten people about new oil-exploration technologies so they can get your dollars and turn it over to politicians to win elections "so they can control your lives."

Ohio's GOP primary is March 6.

Santorum also planned several campaign appearances later Monday in Michigan. Voters there go to the polls on Feb. 28.

The oil and coal industries support the Republican party and want to see continued use of their products.

Remember when the tobacco company CEO's went before congress and all said they did not believe smoking caused cancer?

The Republican party is the party of the top 1%.

Note that the same PR firms and scientists who told us that smoking did not cause cancer are now flakking against global warming. (Orestes & Conway, Merchants of Doubt; Hoggan, Climate Hoax)

"Santorum told voters in eastern Ohio on Monday that science is on the side of those who want to aggressively produce more oil and natural gas in America."

Well, right there that is a lie. The science is "ON" its side because those who want to aggressively produce more oil and natural gas have derailed it.

"He said the notion of global warming is not climate science but "political science.""
That is another lie. The chemistry and physics of climate change are not taught in poly sci class.

Santorum is , IMO, crazy. It is as if he stepped right out of the middle ages and he believes that all power and truth flows from the church and its most wealthy supporters. Somehow, the blessings of the enlightenment seem to have completely passed over him and he thinks that stories used to frighten children and ignorant people are real.

This is not a good thing.

Santorum is not crazy. Check his record in Congress. He has rationally decided that, in order to win the Republican nomination, he must adopt crazy solutions. That does mean that he is a consummate cynic and the complete opposite of that Jewish carpenter preacher that he so likes to invoke.

There is no need to call Rick names. Actually, unlike oil industry execs, Newt, and Romney who all know that the science is a fact and deliberately mislead people or pander to a small ignorant minority of the party, Rick truly believes this nonsense. You should pitty Rick Santorum, not ridicule him. I'm not sure if Rick was home schooled or if the public school system just failed him, but it's pretty obvious he lacks any understanding of science. That said I could say the same for many of the people making obviously false statements on these comment boards. While I'm certain a few are deliberatly misleading people to further an agenda, I realize that the vast majority of people simply don't understand the complex science behind climate change and are simply repeating the nonsense they get from propoganda sites.

Can't we find them their own country to go inhabit?

Maybe somewhere near one of the world's other theocracies?

Really, otherwise maybe I"LL need to start looking.

It really appears to me that this country is in the midst of a divorce caused by "irreconcilable differences".

Israel is far to advanced for these rubes. I think they would be more comfortable in conservative theocracy, Iran or maybe Saudi Arabia.

The debate about climate change ended about 2 decades ago. There is strong consensus among actual scientists. There are a tiny handful of individuals (mostly NON-scientists) who still question it and they scream loudly. But they are not the experts in the field. The EXPERTS in the field all checked and double checked and triple checked the data and for roughly 20 years now, have all agreed that while climate change cycles are normal, the current warming trend is occurring at rates that far exceed "normal" for the history of the planet and the ONLY explanation - the only thing that's different in this cycle - is the HUMAN factor and all of our carbon fuel and raping of the earth and polluting the atmosphere.

There is no debate here, Rick. The debate is only in your own head.

Agreed and fanned. But do note that Sen. Santorum has several debates going on in his head. There is Santorum the Presidential candidate vs. the Senator vs. the Congressman vs. the private citizen (when he was basically pro-choice). Maybe Fox News will carry these debates.

Well, that would be entertaining. I'd also like to see that set of debates between the various Mitt's.

Science...we don't need no stinkin science!!! I wonder if Santorum realizes how science has played a part in keeping his sick daughter alive all this time?...Probley not. Maybe the next time she gets real sick, he should just keep her at home and not take her to the hospital. He could "pray" her well.

As long as republicans are ripping america of it's social being they may as well hurry and get what they can out of the earth here. Maybe once stripped and baron society gone as we know it they will just go away when nothing is left. What a pleasant thought that is.

Mr. Santorum,

Have you noticed the thermoplastic in our France-sized Ocean Garbage Patches in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans? This same thermoplastic is use by our fast food establishments to retain or reject heat and cold. Thus, when thermoplastic is dumped into the ocean by our big cities as trash, or blown off beaches around the world, we basically disrupt the natural heat transfer between the ocean and the atmosphere. Have you noticed that as the two ocean garbage patches continue to grow larger, the weather has become more severe? There has to be an outcome of putting all that thermoplastic trash in the ocean when the Atlantic Garbage Patch sits nearby the Gulf Stream. See how big they are in this Google Map of Environmental Disasters: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=202977755949863934429.0004a0b6a2c06d38562b9&msa=0&ll=0.703107,-23.554687&spn=140.633202,337.851563

So someone who does not believe in science of any kind is the expert on what climate science is? Wonderful. And he thinks all parents should home school their children.

So wait, let me get this straight. Climate change is politicle science used to control our lives, but.... anti birth control legislation, anti women rights legislation, anti abortion legislation...etc is not used to control our lives?

Please explain this to me Rick, or would that require you to have a coherent thought?
09:09 PM on 02/21/2012
No explanation necessary, he can just call you a socialistliberalradicalnonchristian and then move on. Oh yeah, and then claim Obama is divisive.

It's simple. Government should get off the back of business so that it's better able to jump on the backs of humans.
