Oscars: The Most Ridiculous Musical Performances In Academy Awards History

First Posted: 02/22/2012 8:17 am Updated: 02/24/2012 8:01 am

Three Six Mafia

Fact: Gwyneth Paltrow and rap group Three 6 Mafia once performed -- though (unfortunately) not together -- during the Academy Awards ceremonies (Paltrow for "Country Strong"; Three 6 for "Hustle & Flow").

Obviously, those aren't the only bizarre acts that have appeared on the Oscar stage: from A.R. Rahman's Olympic-like moment in 2009 to Bjork being, well, Bjork in 2001, the Academy Awards has been known to throw out an odd musical moment or five.

To celebrate this year's Academy Awards -- which air this Sunday -- let's take a look at the most ridiculous musical performances in Oscar history.

For more Oscar music, head over to the Movie Scores channel on Aol Radio, featuring all the Oscar-nominated scores from this year.

WOW!

Black people used to be so cool. They used to be the COOLEST people on the planet.

Now, they have all sunk to the very lowness that the KKK said that they were.

It's amazing that the Oscars salutes excellence in film and yet the program is usually the worst thing you will ever see on TV.

I fail to see what's so ridiculous about 3 6 Mafia performing the song they wrote, the way they perform. I don't like to throw this word out there very often, because it's super overused, but I think that comes off plain racist.

Mmmmm this article seems to only be the opinion of the dumb person that wrote it. None of these performances seems ridiculous. different/ funny/ slow maybe but ridiculous? That is just cause your window of reality is probably extremely narrow....

The Academy Awards' snub of Bjork for her performance as Selma Ježková in Lars von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark" was a travesty. That was more ridiculous than any performances mentioned in this story.

Bjorks musical performance for the 2001 Academy Awards was not ridiculous. If you want to make the case for her fashion choice that night, then that's a different story.

There's no need for anyone to perform the nominated songs. Just play a snippet and hand out the award. The Oscars are too long.

I liked that song from "Slumdog Millionaire." And Bjork? Well, except for that dress, she was good. It's what she does.

Those were all pretty terrible, except "Blame Canada," which was brilliant. The entire South Park movie soundtrack is hilarious.
