Astronauts really do have all the fun.
Smithsonian Magazine reminded us on Tuesday of the classic 1972 video of astronauts Harrison "Jack" Schmitt and Eugene Cernan walking on the moon, skipping merrily and singing their own version of "The Fountain in the Park."
As you'll hear, the Apollo 17 astronauts bungle the rendition as they attempt to change the song's lyrics from "May" to "December" to reflect the timing of their mission, which took place in December 1972.
Apollo 17 was the final Apollo mission, and the last time humans set foot on the moon. According to the Lunar and Planetary Institute, the crew participated in three moon walks and spent a total of 22 hours walking on the lunar surface.
Because NASA retired its space shuttle program last summer, the U.S. has no way to transport astronauts into space. Astronauts visiting the International Space Station must hitch rides aboard Russia's Soyuz spacecraft.
John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, lamented this on Monday, the 50th anniversary of his historic mission.
"It's unseemly to me that here we are, supposedly the world's greatest space-faring nation, and we don't even have a way to get back and forth to our own International Space Station," he said, according to ABC News.
