Man Accused Of Running Over Girlfriend: Charles Ann Arrested For Aena Hong's Death

FORT LEE, N.J. -- A man angry that his girlfriend was trying to break up with him struck her with his car and repeatedly backed over her body, prosecutors said Tuesday in charging him with murder.

Charles Ann had been dating 25-year-old Aena Hong for about a year, and the pair had a tumultuous relationship, Bergen County prosecutor John Molinelli said.

Witnesses told police they saw a woman on foot arguing with the driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata at about 5 p.m. Monday in Fort Lee, a northern New Jersey borough next to the George Washington Bridge, directly across from Manhattan.

The car drove away from the woman, turned around, rapidly accelerated and struck her as she was crossing an intersection, witnesses said. The driver then put the car in reverse and ran over the woman's body three times, investigators said.

Hong, of Fort Lee, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police found the Hyundai Sonata, registered to Ann, in Fort Lee a few hours later.

The 26-year-old Ann, who is unemployed, was arrested at 4 a.m. Tuesday at a friend's apartment in Flushing, N.Y.

Ann, a native of South Korea, came to the U.S. in 2009 and is a naturalized U.S. citizen who lived in Fort Lee, authorities said. He was carrying a large amount of cash and his passport when he was arrested, leading investigators to believe that he might have been preparing to flee the country, Molinelli said.

Ann is being held on $3 million bail and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. It isn't clear if he has a lawyer.

Ann's action of murder is too extreme; however, from what I heard, he gave her about everything she requested him for. In other words, she was a gold digger and he was probably trying to be a good boyfriend who gave in to about all of a girlfriend's requests. I heard he even gave her large amounts of money to pay for her own personal problems, leaving him with almost nothing. She chose to dig out everything he had and eventually split up with him. I believe she murdered him in another way rather than the physical form of murder. Maybe this is what drove him to murder her.

I feel sorry for both sides and it is such a shame many human beings behave this way.

Once again, a man who just wouldn't just walk away and let things calm down or just let the relationship end. Stop killing women when they don't want you anymore. Life goes on, but now it won't for her and yours is a 6X6 cell for life.

Sort of like Jodi Arias who shot then stabed her ex-boyfriend 27 times, then slit his throut and took picture of his dead body. She couldn't just let go either, or like the female Doctor who kept running over her husband while their daughter was in the car telling her mother don't run over my Daddy.

Well... at least we know it's not an American only thing to be that stupid about break ups. Still my prayers and condolences to her family for the loss.

If they had married, she would have been Aena Ann. I think I'd try to break up with the dude, too.

Yeah, it wasn't cool, I admit. But it made ya laugh, just the same ...

What's going on? What's with the spike in domestic murders? When did killing folks trying to dump you become a case for murder?
12:58 PM on 02/22/2012
Well, when DV becomes acceptable and even glorified in song, what do you expect from young people? Look elsewhere on HuffPost site for the Bonnie Fuller column essentially celebrating the Rihanna and Chris Brown reunion. Deep sigh...

Do a search on huffpost for Jodi Arias. She shot her boyfriend and stabbed him 27 times then slit his throut from ear to ear.

If the relationship wasn't working out, the girlfriend had ended it he simply should have moved on! His moment of rage will keep him in a cage!
08:16 PM on 02/21/2012
If he ran over her three times then he should be charged with three counts of murder ( just saying )
09:37 PM on 02/21/2012
Did she die three times?
09:58 PM on 02/21/2012
Oh all right then two counts of hit and run and one manslaughter

He's Korean, she's Korean and so was the car! This is not how we do things in the USA. Blind rage is not an excuse for murder!

That is ironic, but the woman's death is tragic!
03:28 PM on 02/23/2012
Yes, man, woman, and car are Korean/Korean-made, but what does that have to do with the crime?

Is that to say that Americans aren't capable of committing heinous crimes? Our prisons are full of murderers and sociopaths.

And technically, this man is a naturalized citizen, so in that sense, he is an American.

I know a thing or two about immigration laws and there is no way someone can get a citizenship after only three years of living here. You have to be a permanent resident for a number of years before you can apply for a citizenship. In any case, the guy is a loser and deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Remember the female Doctor who ran over her husband sevral times.
This sounds like a copy cat case.
08:48 PM on 02/21/2012
As usual in that case a lot of women defended her actions and said the husband deserved what happened to him and she got off a much more lenient than a man would have.
09:50 PM on 02/21/2012
She said it was an accident, three times.

So it's her fault, right? Let's put her in jail for this crime and let the poor boy go free. After all, women are responsible for all the evil in the world, aren't they, mdip?
