National Margarita Day (RECIPES)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 02/22/2012 7:51 am   Updated: 02/22/2012 1:30 pm

Today is National Margarita Day-- one of those completely made up and unnecessary holidays that you can't help but love-- and we have the best Margarita recipes for you right here.

The good news, of course, is that you won't have to wait until "Cinco de Mayo" to drink copious amounts of margaritas. The bad news, however, is that if you were planning on giving up Tequila for lent this year you might have to delay that one until 2013. Virgin margaritas are just not that fun.

So get ready to celebrate Ash Wednesday with some of these drinks. From strawberry margarita to one with a grapefruit twist, there's an option for all. Check out these easy-to-make Margarita recipes:

Is it odd (or maybe just ironic) that "National Margarita Day" which celebrates what one might consider to be a Mexican party drink that many drink by the pitcher should fall on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, when Mexico is a Catholic country? Seems like bad timing to me.

It's not a actual holiday, the writer made it up all by herself and probably over night! BUT you're emphasist does have merit...it means the writer also has very little insight to the actual WORLD news (real news) and considering she's making up a holiday to front a 'recipe' article simply says probably also doesn't have a very long career ahead of her...or possible not one in real 'popular' reading (since not many are gonna just go out and make a margarita cause a lush on a keyboard says so). So yes, this is a '1 person holiday', equal to those type of people who nickname any random day just to 'celebrate' some insignificant accomplishment they had achieved usually at that moment. Like 'National didn't get my butt a DUI' holiday! (I'm predicting that was her second 'attempt' (writer))

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on tequila if blending. Wouldn't do well either but a middle of the road tequila, around $15-20 just make sure they are 100% agave, are just as tasty. Sauza Hornitos green label is one i can drink chilled or in a margarita.

Using a shaker
2oz Hornitos
1oz Cointreau
1 fresh squeeze lime
Rim glass with lime
salt, pour in glass
Grand Marnier floater

Tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar. Put it in a mixer with ice and go to work. Pour into a salt rimmed glass. Enjoy.

Although I prefer the recipe in Mr. Boston's bar guide: tequila, triple sec, Rose's lime juice, shaken and strained into a chilled glass, the grapefruit version and the one with the honey syrup both look tasty!
