Sonja Hinrichsen's 'Snow Drawings' Project Takes Over Field Near Steamboat Springs, Colorado (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Crop circles? Forget 'em. Why destroy agriculture when there's plenty of snow to be had?

Sonja Hinrichsen, an artist visiting Steamboat Springs from San Francisco, helped create "Snow Drawings" earlier this month on Rabbit Ears Pass. The unique spirals were imprinted into the snow by 10 volunteers on snowshoes.

Steamboat Today adds the work is designed to be impermanent, reflecting "beauty at the whim of Mother Nature." ā€œI’m not so into making art that lasts,ā€ Hinrichsen told the paper. ā€œThe world is saturated with manmade projects. I don’t think I need to add more things to the planet.ā€

Though the snow will eventually melt, Cedar Beauregard of Steamboat Aerials was on hand to record the work. (SEE VIDEO, ABOVE)

Get over yourself! Just because you may not care for it doesn't mean it isn't worth anything.

Sonja' s art is pretty to view and does not create permanent intrusion into the environment as opposed to what that guy Christo proposes over the Arkansas river. One is an artist, the other an opportunist.

OMG! Aliens dressed up as humans wearing snowshoes! When will people learn that they exist! When will people learn that these aliens are descendants of BIGFOOT?

ā€œI’m not so into making art that lasts,ā€ the artist said.

We have photography. Art no longer needs to be permanent to be permanent.

Nifty! Looks like embroidery on linen.

And snowshoing is excellent exercise, too.

It's fun to see a field I've skied across many times turned into what looks like stitching on a quilt from the helicopter.

Andrew Goldsworthy she's not, but it's still an impressive and interesting project.

Sonja is a wonderful and talented artist. She may not be "Andrew" as you stated but she is like him an artist who uses nature and the environment as is to create art. So, she deserves recognition in her own right.

Funny do it in the snow and it's art. Do it in wheat fields and it's aliens.

I loved the fleeting seconds of watching the steps being made, as much, if not more than seeing the imprints. That is peaceful and so pleasant. So unimportant and yet touching in an ephemeral way.
