Xfinity Streampix, Comcast Streaming Service, To Launch This Week

Xfinity Streampix

02/21/12 01:52 PM ET  AP

PHILADELPHIA -- Cable TV giant Comcast is launching a new subscription video service that will enable its customers to instantly view movies and TV shows both in and out of the home.

The service, called Xfinity Streampix, will be available this week to Xfinity video customers. The company said Tuesday that it will allow customers to access programming on multiple screens and devices including TVs, online platforms and mobile devices.

In the coming year, Streampix will be available on additional devices such as Xbox 360 and those powered by Android.

This new service complements the 75,000 TV shows and movies now available on Xfinity On Demand and XfinityTV.com as well as through the Xfinity TV app.

The Philadelphia-based Comcast is the nation's largest cable TV provider.

Check your Comcast bill, They are good at adding things with out your knowledge.

the article says nothing of the cost, what shows or movies would be available or anything worthwhile to let a consumer know if they would even want this service. Additionally is this available to anyone who has their TV service, or is this a seperate Add on with an additional monthly fee? This article is practically worthless.

No way in Hell I would buy anything from Comcast

They are truley the most agressive when it comes to "deep packet inspection". Capturning your personal data and ensuring that your search turn up THEIR services at the expense of their competition.

Not to mention they donate agressively to Conservative Republican politicians.

Count me out. I wont even look!

Unless its $7/month it's not competition.

so uh... can I get this new service for $7 a month? I have netflix, hulu, and crunchyroll because I prefer the a la carte model where I pay for what I want to watch and not for a bunch of channels I don't want. I would add HBO Go to my list if they offered it a la carte as well...

I still don't understand why HBO Go isn't available to everyone. I personally do the Netflix-Hulu Plus package.

Netflix remains king in my eyes, you can bring a new competitor every day if you like, makes no difference.

Xfinity's Streampix is said to be competition for Netflix but really I think their trying to compete with DISH's TV everywhere that delivers live TV and DVR content with no additional charge at all. Customers get all the same programs that they would at home and you can manage your DVR recordings with DISH's free app called Dish Remote Access. But now that Blockbuster has introduced their new movie platform called Blockbuster@Home. Xfinity is going to have to try a little harder. Customers can stream thousands of Blockbuster hits to their TV's and PC's plus you'll get 20 premium movie channels with it. You'll also be able to rent one disc at a time which includes games, blu-rays, movies and TV shows. There are 100,000 titles to choose from and Blockbuster carries games for XBOX, XBOX 360, Wii, PS2 and PS3 where you have 3,000 of the latest games to choose from. A DISH employee/co-worker said that Blockbuster gets new releases 28 days before Netflix and Redbox!

This is getting to be ridiculous. Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Streaming, Vudu and others, and now this? My parents have Comcast and their cable is always going out, so I'm sure this service will be crap too. www.thelettersproject.org

That's the funniest post I've read in a while. Why is Comcrap so overpriced? I have Uverse and it's a lot better. It can record four shows at a time with my DVR and I get a pretty good deal each month with all my promotions and high speed internet. My brother-in-law finally finished his contract with that sorry company. He said his bill kept going up, up, up and he wasn't getting anything in return, just like with his ex-wife.

This xfinity is in no way a rivel or threat to Netflix. You have to be a Comcast cable subscriber to stream it. Not threat whatsoever to Netflix. I love Netflix and wou

I use to have Comcast, had them for years and was very happy with them until the changed the terms of the agreement and put a cap on data. I signed up for unlimited data and then they capped. Not cool. I canceled my account

I had comcast once, but a penicillin shot took care of it.

I don't understand why services like this and HBOGO are announced as competition to Netflix. These are add on services if you already subscribe to their (considerably more expensive) offerings.

Netflix is a stand alone product that requires no other purchases. I understand comparing Hulu+ and Amazon Prime to Netflix as they are stand alone products as well.

When I signed up with Netflix I had already cut those cords. So long as my Internet provider will allow the bandwidth, I don't ever want to go back. I'm only interested in services that don't require a cable/sat. provider.

I switched from Comcast cable to Directv. Couldn't be happier. Great customer service, the times I've had to call the person I spoke to was knowledgeable and courteous, when there was a mixup on one of my services, they threw in a second recordable DVR and installation for free, etc. I was worried about the cancellation penalty originally but not now. And I'm paying less for more and getting a far better picture too. Only problem, Comcast is charging a fortune for my broadband access now that it isn't bundled.

I know this sounds like I am on commission but really, I'm just sorry I stuck with Comcast so long.

Just remember that anytime you accept a "free" item from DirecTV (like that DVR) you are agreeing to sign a new 2 year contract.

Since it was in the first week, I think I'm ok. But thanks for the reminder.

That no cancellation penalty was what kept me tied to Comcast for so many years no matter how unhappy I was with them. Ironic in a way.

You're in the exact same situation as I was, I dumped Comcast for Direct TV, the difference is like night and day to me, just gorgeous HD picture, and I haven't had any trouble so far. Comcast tried to pull the same crap with me on my broadband, but guess what, I dumped that as well and picked up a faster tier, twice as fast in fact, through AT&T. I am not a fan of AT&T as a company either, but I am pleased so far with the broadband.
