Anthony Bourdain's Ecco Book Imprint Announces First Titles, Authors

Posted: 02/22/2012 5:45 pm

Back in September, when it was announced that Anthony Bourdain, star of No Reservations and all-around culinary luminary, was getting his own line of books at Harper-Collins' Ecco, it surprised people in both the food world and in the publishing industry. Today, though, Ecco revealed the first books the new imprint will publish -- and the picks go a long way towards silencing any critics.

The biggest name in the bunch is Roy Choi, a former Food & Wine Best New Chef, of LA's Kogi, Chego and A-Frame. He'll be releasing a memoir-slash-cookbook called Spaghetti Junction: Riding Shotgun with an L.A. Chef.

The other two authors aren't as high-profile, but their offerings are arguably even more in Bourdain's macho style than Choi's. Daniel Vaughn will present Prophets of Smoked Meat, a guide to Texas barbecue legends. And kickboxer Mark Miller will add a memoir, Fight Shark, to the mix.

Cooking, shotguns, smoked meat and kickboxing... as a writer, Anthony Bourdain may not quite be Ernest Hemingway, but he's sure aiming for The Sun Also Rises as an editor!

I should shell out money to a man who threw a fellow member under a bus. He should jump out in front of one himself, to save face.

When are the dim wits running the Travel channel going to get rid of this guy who claims to be an ex junky . I've seen him filmed stoned.( booze drugs or both)They had to have done loads of editing to make some shows passable, for viewing. Thank God there are better things to watch cause he is revolting. He assigned himself to mock and critique other people or life styles. He was not a successful chief. He could be successful at what he is doing, but he is too high to see beyond himself and his immediate needs for attention.

I have to agree with you. I watched a couple of times and I grew to find him extremely obnoxious as well.

And of course now we know why he was nailing Paula Dean publically for trying to grab money. He was busy trying to get publicity himself. hm... money grabber? yeah i think so. Scavenger also comes to mind.

I don't get his appeal, but he seems to have fanatic followers. Bitter ex-junky line cook, hell I know a million of those.

I very much like Tony Bourdain. His narrative , commentary and dry humor on No Reservations is academic, non-judgemental, entertaining and educational. He is one of the people I would invite to my "fantasy dinner".

I tried to avoid him for years, and two years ago I watched and found myself enjoying his show. Yes his show is good, When in Haiti he stayed in a place that he said he would be happy to stay and sit on the patio and write. And when he said it I thought, with all his adventures all over the globe, the guy has stories to tell. And I would love to read them. He has ease and wit about himself, he makes no attempt to hide his past habits.

And anyone who is about to jump off a cliff and says que the Pink Floyd music, is a friend of mine

Here is the soundtrack; Before the jump, "Breathe". While falling, "Learning to Fly". At the safe landing, "Have a Cigar".

Never thought much of that channel, until Bourdain came along. What a way to may a living, touring the world, eating and drinking and sampling some of the worlds best delicacies....and meeting people from all over the world.....then getting paid for it on top of that. Now that would be a life and a half.....lucky dog.

People forget that he had three novels published before Kitchen Confidential.  One of 'em became a major plot point in an episode of CSI.
