Iran Strike: Russia Warns Israel Not To Attack

Iran Strike Russia

First Posted: 02/22/2012 7:23 am Updated: 02/23/2012 12:15 am

MOSCOW, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Russia warned Israel not to attack Iran over its nuclear programme, saying on Wednesday that military action would have catastrophic consequences.

"Of course any possible military scenario against Iran will be catastrophic for the region and for the whole system of international relations," Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.

"Therefore I hope Israel understands all these consequences ... and they should also consider the consequences of such action for themselves," Gatilov said at a news conference. (Reporting by Alexei Anishchuk; Writing by Steve Gutterman)

The selling off of humanity for the purpose of survival is clearly seen here. If Russia dares declares sanctions on Iran for non-compliance when trillions are at stake for all of the nuclear technology Iran owes Russia? Or if Russia claims Syria is acting in ways like genocide then Russia loses trillions in defense contracts? People's rights for safety and security are sadly being sold out as the World watches. Both Russia & China block important sanctions to at times seen as a very slow diplomatic process allowing defiant countries to just mock the United Nations as a Whole. I guess history has not taught us important lessons as Czechoslovakia was appeased to the Germans in WWII. If any nation thinks one nation , Israel , will just sit back and allow a country who openly denies the existence of the holocaust itself, and awaits the day to destroy another country....who can blame Israel if Isreal is being sold out just for countries to profit with selling arms and technology. No one wishes to see this scenerio from falling into place but the two countries with the financial capacity to stop Iran and Syria are more interested in the financial losses than humanity to man.

I would like to direct this comment to my American cousins. Both Australia and America were colonised by the British and were subject to English Law. As was Palestine in 1917. My American cousins revolted against British Rule On the basis of no taxation without representation and a principled stance in support of democracy.

Britain in 1917 after capturing Palestine from the Ottoman Empire endorsed a policy of establishing Palestine as a Jewish homeland. There was no representative of Palestine in the British Parliament.

It is with the view to history that I ask my American cousins what would have your view been if the French Indian war had been lost and Britain had ceded a number of it's colonies to the French without consultation or representation.

In 1917 Britain promised Palestine as a Jewish homeland. Palestine at the time had a 95% Arab Majority. If it is legitimate to revolt against your government because they tax you without you having a representative in Parliament. Can that government give the territory away without consultation.

Here is the essence of Balfour declaration.

The Boston Tea party was all about no taxation without representation. How would you have reacted if the British had given one or more colonies to the French.

Israel is proberly the only country that has BALLS to attack Iran and Syria. Why is Russia so afraid of them? Are they scared that they may get involved in somthing they themselves can't handle? Especially with the problems they now have in their own country. Think trice what you say and demand on others Russia you can't even afford to fight for your own peoples rights. Your not all the might as you once throuth you were.

Russia didn't say they were afraid. They said they wont support an attack by israel.

Probably because they think its a stupid idea like the rest of the world.

Reza Kahlili writes:

"I do not expect those who have chosen evil to understand, but again, if they had any dignity, if they had respect for humanity, then they would not support a regime that stones women to death, a regime that rapes and tortures Iranian boys and girls to suppress their desire for freedom, a regime that chops off hands and feet in punishment for stealing, a regime that lashes Iranians as punishment for not adhering to Islamic rules and savagely attacks anyone opposing it. This is a regime that is at the helm of worldwide terrorism in which many of its officials are wanted either by Interpol or courts around the world for terrorist acts and assassinations.
Though it saddens me to know there are such individuals among us -- individuals who profess loyalty to a barbaric regime -- I am happy to report that even they will not be able save the criminals ruling Iran. Their final outcome is in the hands of God."
Long Live the Iranian People.

An israel supporter idly lecturing the thread about human rights.

Laughable.

Where is the Arab world is there human rights for anyone? More human rights for Arabs in Israel than in any Arab state.

Iran is one of the unlucky few countries on the planet whose population has suffered a direct attack with WMDs, and one of the even fewer who have been attacked with chemical weapons.

Who can blame them for not developing a deterrent? Particularly when israel has been itching for an attack for over a decade and every public statement from israeli leader in the last 2 years is a threat to Iran.

The possession of about 400 nukes and the means to deliver them nearly everywhere on Earth gives the Israelis power to foment war and subvert our world community, esoecially the US. The Israeli samson Option is the threat to use nukes on any enemy (or friend) who gets in Israels way of continued dominance and hegemony in the ME and surrounding nations. Blackmail has put nations in line and kept criticism of Israeli intentions and agenda quiet. Inform yourselves. The real threat to world peace is not Iran!

Ahmadinejad quoted a remark from Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, who said that Israel "must be wiped out from the map of the world."

The president then said: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," according to a quote published by IRNA.

Its current behavior and position in the world simply isn't sustainable.

ironically for the world, Theo. Herzl who more or less popularized the concept Zionism thought that Israel should be a land mass in Argentina. He was dissuaded from this by more militant Zionists.

this statement in no way is critical of Israel.

This potential war isn't like Iraq their are super powers involved and unused nukes to be pointed!
07:47 AM on 02/23/2012
The only thing that might influence the Ayatollahs to alter their nuclear plans is a combination of credible military threats and severe sanctions. But, when the military threat is made to appear very vague – due to mixed and contradictory statements by world leaders – and when the decision to impose tough sanctions on Iran is delayed by months and doesn't include some of the superpowers, Iran can be expected to continue to develop its nuclear weaponry without too much worry or disruption.

There aren't "mixed statements". Nobody wants a war. The only people itching for war are the israeli right-wing and its wacko israel-first supporters in the US

Every statement made by Iranian officials makes it seem they are headed for war. Whether they attack Israel as they have threatened or their Arab neighbors the world is in a more dangerous position with a fascist Iranian state possessing nuclear arms. You don't have to be Israeil or right-wing to realize that.

When a country is threatened over and over for years by countries around the world it is rational for them to want a nuclear weapon, or the ability to have one on short notice. The US and Israel
HAVE been a threat to them since WE were thrown out. ( i.e. overthrow of he Shah ) Lost "our" oil.

If they were to attain a bomb it is highly unlikely that ANYONE would attack them. Sounds rational to me.
08:08 AM on 02/24/2012
The Iranians arm and support Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Iran supports terrorism against Israel and Jews everywhere. They are at war against Israel and the United States and threaten their neighbors. The world is not safe with nuclear arms in the possession of an extremist Islamist state.

Hezbollah was a creation of israeli belligerence and aggression in South Lebanon.

Hezbollah is the only thing keeping israel from the Litani river and stealing more land.
