WASHINGTON -- Washington National Cathedral says it has raised $2 million to cover restoration work after last year's earthquake severely damaged the building.

But the cathedral said Wednesday it must still raise $18 million to complete repairs and stabilization of its hand-carved stonework.

The announcement comes six months after the 5.8-magnitude earthquake in August damaged four main spires on the cathedral's central tower and cracked other parts of the building.

The estimated cost of repairing the building has risen from $15 million to $20 million.

Officials say they have raised another $5 million since the earthquake to support the cathedral's operating budget, which has suffered in recent years.

The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade, interim dean of the cathedral, says support has come from across the country.

Yes, the great kindness of all parishioners, are the ones who  give much much to charities.

Funny who pays for what and if all did not pay then what? One cannot give to charities can they or build or maintain if no parishioners.

Great!! Let's restore this beautiful building, which is part of the Child-O-Rape Corporation, aka, The Catholic Church.

The money given to the Catholic Church is used to defend child rapists.

If you donate a penny to the Catholic Church, you endorse child rape.
If you are involved in any way with Catholic Church, you endorse child rape.
If you attend events at Catholic Churches, such as weddings and whatever else weird stuff they do, whether you give them money or not, you endorse child rape.
If you're not disgusted when you see a Catholic Church, you're desensitized towards child abuse.

An interesting point, but the Washington National Cathedral is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church, not the Roman Catholic Church. Check it out.

Rather a cathedral paid for by its parishioners?
