Fish McBites, McDonald's Newest Snack, Makes It To Select Stores In Time For Lent

First Posted: 02/23/2012 10:07 am Updated: 02/23/2012 11:55 am

McDonald's newest fried morsels, the McBites, have already conquered the land: even though they were introduced just months ago, they've already proven one of the bestselling items on the menu at the biggest restaurant chain in the world. And now McDonald's aims to invade the sea as well by releasing a fish-based version of the McBites.

The new Fish McBites were first spotted by a GrubGrade reader at a McDonald's in Fort Worth, Tex. A commenter then noted that the Fish McBites already has its own page on the McDonald's website.

The chicken of the sea may be tuna, but according to the official website, the Chicken McBites of the sea are made of "real Alaskan pollock." They're also served with tartar dipping sauce.

FoodBeast speculated that the Fish McBites may have been released in February to try and capitalize on the demand for fish among devout observers of Lent.

UPDATE: McDonald's spokesperson Danya Proud wrote to HuffPost Food to explain the current status of Fish McBites. "These are in test in a couple of markets, however the test is in infancy. We will continue to evaluate customer feedback and restaurant operations," she said. "It is too early to comment or speculate on the future role this menu item may place on our menu."

I've given up trying to eat healthy at McDonald's. The salads are always expired and or old and wilted. The oatmeal is awful, and the yogurt always taste off and soured. It makes me angry because I know if McDonald's gave their healthier options more support, they would sell better. It's not that nobody wants to eat salad. Nobody wants to eat a salad that is ready for the landfill.

(They make them in the morning for the day, but lettuce wilts quickly. But most people make salads right before they eat them.)

Unfortunately, there isn't enough market for good food among the McDonald's frequenters, so it isn't a priority. Although I often purchase a grilled chicken wrap - little lettuce, little tomato, little cheese, and bbq sauce with about 1/4 breast of chicken. Not bad - few calories.

But if we really cared, we wouldn't be eating anything we didn't make or cannot pronounce the ingredients of, eliminating most of McDonald's offerings.

What a pathetic video, and get rid of the commercials. I know you're hurting for money, but that doesn't help.

McDonalds are franchise operations, only as good as their owners... the two cities near me each have successful McDs- only one serves edible food, both in business over 15 years... On the other side of midnight, in a town half way from the Airport and home is a warm clean place where my grand child can get something to eat-and its Sunday nite... IN THE GOOD ONE, fish bites will be ok...

Ugh, another fried food to put in their arsenal. Why can't ANY fast food joint sell GRILLED McBites or McNuggets or WHATEVER they call them. Common now! One second these places are promoting their "healthy" food and the next, bring on the FRIED CRAP!

Mmmmm..."tartar dipping sauce." I've always regarded the Filet-o-Fish as a mere pallet for the delicious, delicious tartar sauce, anyway....

Sort of like the chickey nuggets are a vehicle for the sweet and sour sauce, and their ridiculously good honey.
