Lara Logan: 'I Feel Guilty. I Feel A Little Bit Responsible' After Marie Colvin's Death (VIDEO)

Lara Logan

The death of Marie Colvin resonated deeply with CBS News' chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan, who remembered the famed war reporter on Thursday's "CBS This Morning."

Colvin, an American war correspondent for the Britain's Sunday Times, was covering the Syrian uprising from the city of Homs. She was killed by intense shell attack on the besieged city on Wednesday.

Speaking to Charlie Rose and Gayle King on Thursday, Logan praised Colvin and her legacy. "You couldn't be part of the foreign media world and travel to these places and not know who Marie Colvin was," she said. Logan called the late journalist "a legend in her own right" and a "pioneer" as a woman in a field that she said used to be even more of "a man's world."

Logan, who suffered a brutal sexual assault in Egypt last year, related to Colvin's commitment to covering overseas conflicts. "When I hear about Marie's death, I feel guilty. I feel a little bit responsible. I feel a little bit like a fraud," she said.

"Responsible how?" King asked. "For doing what she was doing. For being there on the ground, like Marie was, telling the story of people whose voices cannot otherwise be heard," Logan explained. "Whose lives otherwise mean nothing, because if you're not there to record the truth about what's happening to them, then it cannot be stopped. No government can ever be pushed into stopping it."

Logan, who is scheduled to return to reporting from Afghanistan this summer, spoke out about the dangers that foreign correspondents face. "Journalists today are in a very difficult position in the Middle East, because they can't be independent, third-party witnesses anymore," she said. "You are the enemy of the state."

To see her near tears about the profession she loves and a very dear friend she loved breaks my heart. Lara Logan did some of the best reporting that was done on the Iraq War. She is one of if not THE best war correspondents alive. She exudes intelligence and dedication to her profession, which is a celebration of finding the truth.

Maybe some other "journalists" we see on tv should give that a try.

Lara Logan is a class act. Few are left who are as intelligent, well-connected, and dedicated to the very ideal of "TRUTH". And, this is why we have mostly garbage coming the news readers and reporters today. Most reporters today seem to care little or nothing for the truth, not Lara, her love of the truth makes her reporting a joy to see.

I hope Ms Logan continues to mend. And, I hope she is able to do so with a minimal amount of pain. One day very soon, we will see Lara back in the thick of things and with all of her confidence back. Lara Logan is a VERY strong woman.

Lara Logan is a fraud. Why doesn't she tell the truth? It is safe to report in Israel, but reporters and in particular women are attacked, raped, etc. in the Islamic Arab countries. I resent how she lumps in democratic Israel with the totalitarian societies of the Arab world.

Your accusation of fraud is both wrong and wrong headed. Just because she doesn't see the world in the way you do, you've no cause to insult her, or anyone else for that matter. When you throw around these attacks at the people with whom you are in disagreement degrades your point and assures your target will NEVER see things in your way.

And, it makes for incredibly boring reading.

Lara is a committed journalist who is passionate about giving voices to those with silent screams. Lara is also intelligent enough to know that a sexual assault, in a foreign country, thousands miles away from all your loved ones, leaves one vulnerable and in the spotlight.

Best of luck to you Lara - hope your recovery from PTSD is 100% so that you can, once again, follow your passion.

What secrets does Syria know about our government that prevents us from getting more involved?

Weren't we doing renditions to Syria for a while?

It has nothing to do with what Syria knows. It has everything to do with what everyone else knows: no oil.

Speaking to Charlie Rose and Gayle King"

How appropriate that she is talking to two Obama shills about this when it is Obama who is standing by as this slaughter continues.

Hey Obama, I thought you would not stand by and wait for pics of innocents slaughtered to be shown on TV.

I'd sure be in favor of a nightly news show with Lara doing the "hard news' and Rachel Maddow doing commentary.

Great idea: if your goal is to run MSNBC completely into the ground. Rachel single-handedly drove MSNBC's ratings down to lower than GBTV which is almost brand new, by news show standards. Check it yourself on alexa.com

Here's a news flash christian??? A lot of us don't run around looking for ratings to determine what we watch. Some of us are independent and not addicted to being lemmings and follow the crowd. I don't give a damn what Rachel's numbers are. She does the best research on TV, she is highly educated, intelligent, well spoken, has a wonderful sense of humor and every time I watch her show I learn something. If you think quality is determined by the ratings you just do not know how to think for yourself. Go back to Alexa.com it will tell you what your opinion is for today and if you are allowed to have one.

Did I hear Logan correctly ... that it was members of the administration in Egypt that orchestrated the attack on her to attempt to make the protestors look bad?

Is that confirmed?

It will probably be never confirmed, but her theory has merit.

First of all, rape and sexual assault were commonly used by Mubarak's police as a way to torture and intimidate anyone regarded as a threat.

Secondly, She had already crossed paths with government supporters a few days before, and was accused of being an Israeli spy.

Third, on the night of her horrific ordeal, some of those attacking her yelled the exact same charge, that she was an Israeli.

Fourth, on several occasions during the protests, Mubarak supporters went into Tahrir Square to beat up or attack journalists or demonstrators.

I think that on the night of Mubarak's downfall, some of his supporters saw Ms. Logan in the square, and decided to do a number on her she would never recover from.

Thankfully, they failed.

@bob riversmith: Sounds to me like you're implying that she's making her story up. This is the problem with rape survivors coming forward; Comments like that.

Maybe she was dressed provocatively, right? (sheesh)

You entirely miss my point ... I'm not saying anything of the sort.
But I DO want to know who the actual assailants were. That's important because the right-wing in this country WANTS to portray the Arab Spring in a bad light.

That's because the American Right-Wing is snarling for another war.
