Peyton Manning Billboard: Dolphins Fans Lobby For Team To Get Colts QB (PHOTO)

As Tim Tebow's backup with the Denver Broncos noted, billboards can apparently be effective in determining who starts at quarterback for an NFL team. It looks like fans of the Miami Dolphins were taking note of what happened in Denver.

In an effort to persuade the Dolphins organization to pursue Indianapolis Colts star Peyton Manning, Miami fans set up a website called manningtomiami.com and advertised it on a billboard near the team's facility. Scroll down for the photo.

According to the site, the campaign was created to "to help influence Peyton Manning and the Miami Dolphins that 'Manning to Miami' is a movement and marriage that the entire South Florida community is behind."

However, Dolphins fans aren't the only ones trying to bring Manning to their city. Titans fans also started an ad campaign in January in order to convince the four-time MVP to return to Tennessee, where he starred in college.

"It's kind of evident to the sports world they're going to let Peyton go, they're not going to pay him the money that he's due and he's going to be a free agent," said Todd Mayo, one of the creators of www.comehomepeyton.com.

In late January, a public spat between Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay made it seem that one of these suitors would likely land the quarterback. Shortly after Manning publicly complained about the atmosphere at the team headquarters, Irsay called him a "politician" for not keeping his feelings in house.

But just a few weeks later, Irsay told The Indianapolis Star that Manning's future in Indianapolis depends on his willingness to restructure his contract.

Now, the Colts have a couple more weeks to make their decision. They can either pay Manning $28 million on March 8 or release him.

Since Manning's release is expected and, according to Charles Joel of Yahoo Sports, he is on Miami's radar, we should probably expect a few more billboards.

Imagine all the ink, paper, airtime, breath, bandwidth and billboard money that will have been wasted if Peyton Manning can't play anymore.

I love my Fins and I love Manning, but I want a more long term solution. I would prefer Flynn or trade up for RG3...that 40 time was SICK!

He will end up in MN. The Vikings have a long history of washed up QB's who were great in their day. So convinced were we, that we mortgaged our future for Farve, doubled down with McNabb, and will be rebuilding for the next several years. Seriously, Manning is a great QB, I wish him health and a successful return, he would only fit in a team with a great potential of winning now, and with a young backup QB, waiting his turn. To bench a present QB, and hope to bring him back later is foolish.

As a Dolphins fan I hope not. He's working out but he's not letting anyone see him do it. If he wanted to prove he was back to normal he would do that. The fact he's not is a huge red flag. Let someone else pay millions for a gamble. We have a half decent qb in Matt Moore.

Worst move the Fins could make, don't take this guy, let him go to Tennessee or NY and be destroyed by mid season...

Come on Peyton. One more year. Come to the Niners. Superbowl baby. All you will get in Miami is a spanking, just like Indy.

lol - any team that picks Peyton up is just burning $20 mil+ for no reason - the man will never play football again (and if he tries, he needs his head checked - another hit to the neck could paralyze him for life).

He's 37 and recovering from major neck surgery. C'mon - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the risk/reward ratio here for prospective teams, especially for someone who'll demand tens of millions of dollars.

You're saying I was off by one year? Never mind then, sign him ASAP! He clearly has a ton of gas left in his tank. 9_9

I think Manning would be wise to listen to his doctors and not some know it all guy posting on HP. Funny thing is there have been other NFL players come through the same injury and play again without being paralyzed for life.....

The Titans have a QB. They drafted one in 2011. They don't need Manning now, even though he's from UT.

It's down to Miami or the Jets.

I'll bring him to L.A. Can anyone loan me a couple hundred million so I can start a team, get a stadium, set up staff, pay off politicians, etc. I'm good for it.

My heart will be broken if he leaves Indy. Maybe if Irsay wouldn't have spent so much money on drugs, he'd have enough to pay Peyton.

Why would Irsay want to pay a guy $28 million to probably never play again, when he's already paid him $21 million for a season where the man never played a down (and probably was deceptive about the amount of damage in his neck when he signed his last contract)?

Do you think Mr. Irsay runs a business or a charity? I'm curious.
11:53 PM on 02/23/2012
NO! The Dolphins need a fresh outta college QB, and a focus on putting together a solid secondary.
07:35 PM on 02/23/2012
28 million Dollars! Did he discover a cure for cancer, or Alzheimer's, or did he negociated a peace agreement between the Arab World and Israel? I take it back, entertainers are much more worth it in our culture than any cure for any deadly disease or anything else.

Was there a point to your post?
08:49 AM on 02/28/2012
No, just babbling as we as a culture go down the drain worshipping our entertainers.

I am not familiar with the Dolphins front line. Can they keep Manning safe? I do not know the answer to this question. Even it they can, can they do it every game? Case in point. NYG vs 49ers. The Giants won and Eli was hit on almost ever play. Can his brother take a game like that and still be able to walk, let alone play? It will happen in at least one game this season. One game a defensive coordinator will come up with a play that really works. It happened to every QB at least once during the season and playoffs.
What happens to Peyton if there is one really bad game by his O-line?
05:12 AM on 02/28/2012
He should be blind on his blind side. Jake Long is one of the top 5 tackles in the league; the right side of the line is another story - and if they can sign him before the draft, and pick up an offensive lineman to protect his right side, he'll have nothing but time to throw. That, coupled with a good running game, and he's golden in Miami. Might not win the Super Bowl there, but will make quite a run for it.

The unknown is what can he take in a punishing season? How many hits can he take and still play? The only answer is, no one knows. It is a brutal game and people get hit no matter what kind of O-line you have. It is the nature of the game. With the $$$s needed to get him, how do you evaluate the risk?
I do not know. I would rather see him give it up than go onto the field and be carried off and not be able to walk. Just my thoughts. He will be 36 in March, tough call, a gamble at best.
