Bill Maher Gives $1 Million To Obama-Supporting Super PAC

WASHINGTON -- Stephen Colbert may not support the idea of super PACs, but fellow political satirist Bill Maher is buying into the system -- literally.

During a performance of his comedy special "CrazyStupidPolitics" Thursday night, Maher announced a gift of $1 million to Priorities USA Action, an Obama-supporting super PAC. While he mocked the group's clunky name, saying it was "named by Borat," his publicist said that Maher was deadly serious about the donation and believed a second term for Obama was “worth a million dollars."

GOP Super PACs like Restore Our Future, which supports Mitt Romney, have allowed major donors to pump massive sums into the Republican presidential primary. President Obama was a long-time critic of the groups, but the threat of their fundraising power prompted a controversial change of heart earlier this month.

With presidential approval, Democratic super PACs are gearing up for the fall, but lag behind their Republican counterparts. In addition to Maher, other big names like Steven Spielberg have made sizeable donations to Priorities USA. Still, according to ABC, the group received only $59,000 in donations in January.

Priorities USA Action did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Huffington Post.

Dear Bill Maher,

I don't vote for Republicans, no matter what the initial is after their name on the ballot, nor do I give them money.  Unless and until there is drastic and uncompromising change to our campaign financing system, until corporations are no longer 'persons' and are prohibited from participating in elections and politics, all efforts to reform government are useless. But that is  Read More...

If people really beleive Romney as president is going to increase their 401k and yearly salaries they deserve him.

So, Bill Maher - the ignorant comedian - and a true misogynist, gets a free ride because of his $1 million donation to the Oblah-blah campaign. Being a friend of Oblah-blah gives Bill a free ride with the liberal press and media so that he doesn't have to worry about losing his cable tv show. I can't wait for him to tell this story about his new girlfriend: "What do you tell your girlfriend with two black eyes? NOTHING! YOU'VE ALREADY TOLD HER TWICE!!" But of course, the pResident could never condone any type of name calling during this campaign season. Funny, they don't show the same pResident Obama who was caught twice on camera giving a middle digit salute to his opposing candidates in 2008, Clinton and McCain, and who has referred to Tea Party members as “teabaggers?” Why, yes, it would be. They're both of the same ILK!!

You're in trouble now. The tree huggers think that giving money to an Obama supporting PAC isn't equivalent to giving money to Obama. I guess they think Maher would give a million dollars to a PAC that would evenly disperse his money to all political parties. Now THAT'S funny.

Be gentle on them. They can't help it.

Ask that wimp bill what he would do if someone called his mother a c-nt? Or maybe is the c-nt.

Bill Maher made a $1,000,000 MISTAKE if he thinks Obama (a warmongering corporatist) will side with the 99%. Obama has bought and paid for by the 1%.
Also, doesn't it worry Bill Maher that we now have fewer Civil Rights under Obama than under Bush?
Also, Bill Maher should realize that Obama (a Republican cloaked as a Democrat) can screw the 99% much more easily than an avowed Republican can.
Also, part of the $1,000,000 was stolen from the Working Class via the Reagan/Bush/Obama tax cuts for the Filthy Rich.

Thank you, Bill! You're the man! You continue to expose political hypocrisy while still doing what's necessary to help the Dems out. My family will donate also!

This should be illegal. I hate that this is possible in our country today. If money equals speech, then those with more money have more speech. It's not right. And I support the president.

Excellent point.

I am a supporter of President Obama and have to wonder if Maher's contribution is doing the President's campaign more harm than good.
Maher is an avowed atheist who spouts bombastic, blasphemous vitriol at every opportunity.
His anti-Christ positions are enought to whip the religious right & those on the bubble into a frenzy.
In truth, his comments are offensive to Christians on both sides of the divide.
Saw him on Piers Morgan last night and he was up to his old blasphemous tricks.
For a guy that seems to be as intelligent as he is, I am surprised that he would not tone down his rhetoric (at least, for the moment).

You have very little correct here.

Congratulations, Bill. Nice thinking inside the box. You just validated Obama's centrist-corporate-compromise compulsion by falling into the lessor-of-two-evils trap. If all Democrats have to do is be just a little less scary than Republicans, that is all they will ever be. Obama's not gonna change if there's no downside to business as usual.
Now that million would have been really useful for trying to change the system to get rid of this race to the bottom. If we had some proportional representation, with a challenge from the left, Democrats couldn't get away with backsliding and minimalism anymore.

And now for the good news!!!!
For the first time ever, Texas Congressman Ron Paul also leads the president. In that matchup, 43% prefer Paul and 41% Obama. Ten percent (10%) would vote for some other option, a figure that includes 17% of Republicans.

That is because 43% of the electorate have no clue...

I think it is you who lacks a clue if you still support Obama or any of the others

More like 51% haven't woken up yet!

“Redic” huh Bill!? Let’s just assume for a minute that you are correct and we need a fiat money printing system, allowing the private FED banks to manipulate and print at will (which we do not, we just need to get our spending under control!!!!!!)….

I know something else that is “Redic” Bill……paying interest to private FED banks every time we “print” a dollar for war or welfare or $16 trillion dollar bailouts or our rapidly emerging police state. Why don’t we  just print our own US dollars with no interest due to any bank. Why do we need the middlemen to pay the interest to?!  Answer, because it is a giant 100 year long scam that needs to end, or it will end us!!! Bill, just because we have been able to print our way out of hyperinflation, doesn’t mean it isn’t still on its way. It is, and much worse than it would have been if we had acted responsibly in 2008!!! Inflation is already here, and hyperinflation is the only thing that can result from our economic policy of “print the debt  down the road”……just ask Japan how that works, it doesn’t!! You’re not dumb Bill, so I can only assume you are corrupt! Bill Maher has had great guests on his show, but he can no longer be trusted!

Bill is really open about where he stands politically. Apparently you've never watched his show OR didn't understand it.
