There have been some success stories coming out of "Fat Chef" (Thu., 10 p.m. EST on Food Network), most notably Big Mike's amazing transformation, but on Thursday night's episode, Maggie just couldn't stick with the program.
Maggie was a 29-year-old pastry chef in Chicago whose nightly episodes of binge-eating had propelled her weight to over 270 lbs.
First she didn't get along with personal trainer Robert Brace, saying they' weren't "a good fit." Then Maggie admitted that she'd had lap-band surgery (something she hadn't disclosed at the beginning of the program).
As Robert told her, if he and the other diet and exercise experts had known that she'd had the surgery then their approach to the program would have been different.
In return, Maggie displayed a desire for personal privacy that seemed totally at odds with her decision to take part in a TV weight loss show. "My lap band surgery is really none of Robert's business. Or anyone's business for that matter, and I would prefer not to talk about it," she said.
After telling Robert that she was "mad as hell," Maggie revealed that when she feels overwhelmed her reaction is to completely shut down and that she didn't know if she could continue to work with him.
In the end Robert left Maggie to go it alone and pursue her own weight loss program. She did manage to lose 28 lbs, but it was far short of her original goal of 67 lbs.
