Ruby The Giraffe Born At England's Marwell Zoo (VIDEO)

Posted: 02/24/12 05:57 PM ET

Baby G

In front of an audience of roughly 60 people, baby Ruby entered the world at England's Marwell Zoo. The baby giraffe is the first to be born to Irsula, the zoo's resident giraffe.

The zoo is celebrating it's 40th year, and Ruby's name was chosen to reflect the stone signifying the anniversary.

From Getty: LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 21: A five-month-old female slender loris waits to be given her first health check by the veterinary team at London Zoo on July 21, 2011 in London, England. Two female baby slender lorises, who are yet to be named, were given health checks, their sex determined and micro-chipped. Slender Loris is the common name for the strepsirrhine primates who are nocturnal and originate from India, Sri Lanka, and southeast Asia. London Zoo supports conservation of lorises in Sri Lanka, where populations are thought to be under threat from deforestation. (Photo by Christopher Furlong/Getty Images)

The slide show of animals from Marwell Zoo in England to Tokyo Zoo are just some of the cutest slides I've ever viewed. I'm going to keep these in Bookmark. I want to share them with my darling companion. The mere fact that the animals are babies makes certain there's enough cuteness there to make the most hardened of us go, "Awwwww." The Baby Hippo really stands out. Because of the glossiness of the water and how its shiny newborn skin it looks like a small alien from an aquatic world. Who knew such an animal was ever cute in its lifetime?

In front of an audience of sixty this beautiful being entered the world. Didn't this stress the mother? As a captive she had no choice of course. Now, no doubt interventions of all kinds will be undertaken in the utterly misguided belief that humans know best, always.

Animals shouldn't have to live in such tight quarters trapped away in captivity. Animals were meant to live free in the wild.

So true! So sad that our species has decided to cage creation!
