NEW YORK — The Opera Orchestra of New York has canceled its March 7 concert performance of Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra" with Placido Domingo after a funder withdrew a $250,000 pledge.

The performance had been scheduled for Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

NYOO board chairman Norman Raben said Friday, "we have a mandate to be fiscally responsible, and with the loss of funding for this production we were given no choice but to cancel."
