'The Big Bang Theory': Penny Gives A Reluctant Sheldon A Haircut (VIDEO)

With his regular barber in a coma in the hospital, Sheldon's entire world was on the verge of collapse on "The Big Bang Theory" (Thu., 8 p.m. EST on CBS). He doesn't handle change very well in his highly structured routine. The more time passed, the more unhinged he was getting, which is why he finally acquiesced to Penny. She'd been offering to cut his hair for nearly a week by this point.

Why Penny was the choice he went with over a different barber is a bit of a mystery. Neither had his fabled haircut records -- Sheldon's mother really does just play along with his particular brand of crazy -- so why not at least go with a professional? Still, Penny appeared to do a fine job, at least until she started shaving his neck with the clippers. The problem is the clippers make Sheldon giggle, and giggling makes him jump, and jumping when clippers are on the back of one's neck doesn't end well.

It was a shame the episode chose to end at this point, as the fallout from Penny shaving a huge chunk out of the bottom of Sheldon's hairstyle would have possibly provided even more entertainment than his growing anxiety over the disruption of his schedule.

Another story left dangling that would have provided more entertainment with a follow-up was the moment when Bernadette showed up at astronaut training to help Howard out, only to discover that his mother was already there with him. Perhaps these plots will be picked up in the next episode, or maybe the plan was to leave the humor to the viewer's imagination.
