U.S. Weather: Storms To Hit Much Of Country

By WEATHER UNDERGROUND   02/24/12 04:42 AM ET  AP

-- Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, February 24, 2012.

A storm system in the Midwest and its associated cold front will tap into gulf moisture as the system lifts toward the Northeast and the front pushes toward the East Coast. This setup will allow for plenty of rain and thunderstorms to develop from parts of the Gulf Coast to southern New England. Storms may turn severe in areas from the eastern gulf states through much of the southern and mid-Atlantic coast region. While damaging wind gusts are the main concerns with severe weather activity in these regions, a few tornadoes may also form within these storms. Meanwhile, on the northern side of this system, expect snow showers and periods of heavy, wet snow to blanket parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast. Snow accumulations are expected to reach up to 6 to 8 inches as this system passes.

Out West, a sharp cold front will sweep across Pacific Northwest late Friday into Saturday with a colder airmass and gusty winds. This type of late winter storm has the potential to bring heavy wet snowfall and variable snow accumulations to the Cascade mountains, and a mix of rain and snow to the coastal ranges. Expect snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches in lower passes near snow level with localized snow accumulations exceeding 6 inches at higher elevations. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday have ranged from a morning low of 1 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 89 degrees at Austin, Texas

It's currently twenty degrees warmer than normal here. It's been that way for most of the winter.

Weather Underground is now forecasting weather? The last I heard from them they were bombing ROTC buildings and other stuff. The certainly have mellowed since the 60's.

Everyone reading this...look up weather underground in wikipedia...Weatherman, known colloquially as the Weathermen and later the Weather Underground Organization (abbreviated WUO), was an American radical left organization. It originated in 1969 as a faction of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)[2] composed for the most part of the national office leadership of SDS and their supporters. Their goal was to create a clandestine revolutionary party for the violent overthrow of the US government.[3]

The Weathermen grew out of the Revolutionary Youth Movement (RYM) faction of SDS. It took its name from the lyric "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows", from the Bob Dylan song "Subterranean Homesick Blues". You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows was the title of a position paper they distributed at an SDS convention in Chicago on June 18, 1969. This founding document called for a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other radical movements[5] to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism and achieve a classless world: world communism."[6]

And they STILL don't predict the weather. They never have. Do you go around looking for articles about the weather to post this drivel?

Wow I think there are too many young people here that don't realize that it snows up north, where ever north is. LOL As a kid in Massachusetts, my brother and I used to jump out our bedroom windows into the snow and go back in the down stairs windows. Was the only way we could get out until the plow came by. I think it was in 1978, we had so much snow that our 1 story homes were buried. I heated with a wood stove and kept the back door open so we had a way to get out if necessary. The whole county was shut down. I guess what I am trying to say is, there will always be snow. It is nothing new. I hate the way the news wants everyone to panic.

I grew up in Chicago and the late 70's and early 80's the winters were brutal, but everyone got out and helped everyone dig out, it was like a neighborhood party. That's when you knew who your neighbors were and your kids could play safely in the neighborhood. Too bad it all had to change, now weather is just another headline to grab ratings.

One day, I want to jump out of the window into snow...but you just don't get enough snow for that in Texas...

Some of the comments are quite a stretch re: the end of the world, earth tipping off its axis, the earth moving closer to the sun, the moon closer to the earth. Are these people barking mad insane asylum escapees?
