Wine Crate Recycling Tips For Home Projects

First Posted: 02/24/2012 3:56 pm   Updated: 02/24/2012 3:56 pm

From Networx's Adam Verwymeren:

Wine boxes are pretty easy to come by and are quite useful around the home. Used to ship higher-end wines, you can get your hands on these pine boxes for a bargain price once the wine merchants are done with them.

They come in a variety of sizes -- from boxes for a single bottle, to cases capable of carrying a dozen, so there’s a crate for nearly any task or purpose.

To land some of these versatile vessels, you can scour Craigslist, hit up a flea market or ask at a local wine shop or liquor store (I'm lucky because I live in San Francisco, where great wine shops abound). Or, of course, you can just buy some nice wine for yourself. Here are some great ways to use wine crates around the house.

Very nice. I'm especialliy fond of the video you added as well on the step-by-step. I also read on another blog that Thompson's Water Sealer works very well as a finish if your planning on making an outdoor planter.

I took one of those smaller wine boxes that hold a selection of 3 wines. It opens up and I put it on my kitchen wall and used it as a spice rack for all of my baking spices. I also glued a write & wipe sheet on the outside to use as a reminder for grocery shopping.

As far as a planter. I had a neighbor that was going to throw out one of those table top cyclonic ovens with the nice glass base. I took the mechanics out and I use the glass with the partial lid as a planter/terrarium
