Juan Williams Asks Pat Buchanan: 'Are You A Racist?' (VIDEO)

Pat Buchanan Juan Williams

Pat Buchanan sat down for an exclusive interview with Juan Williams on FoxNewsLatino.com on Friday. The two broadcasters now share something in common — both feel as though their employers unfairly fired them after expressing personal points of view on the air.

Buchanan was fired from MSNBC earlier this month after the release of his controversial new book, "Suicide of a Superpower." The book includes chapters with titles such as, "The End of White America." Civil rights groups called on the network to fire Buchanan. After the conservative commentator did not appear on air for weeks, MSNBC said that the network did not feel the views expressed in Buchanan's book were appropriate for public dialog. The network eventually parted ways with Buchanan.

Williams was fired from his former employer, NPR, in May 2011, after making controversial comments about Muslims. Williams was then hired by Fox News.

Buchanan discussed how he felt "surprised" that MSNBC did not have him on the network, after he had been on Fox News, CNN and many radio stations to promote his book. The two broadcasters discussed what they believed were organizations that work to "blacklist" or "rule out of bounds" individuals with particular points of view. "I understand the poison that comes into the American domain of debate and discussion when what you are saying are ruled out of bounds and you are viewed as someone who is not welcome into the mainstream of American ideals and American discourse," Williams said.

Williams added, "In your case, the charge is one that is so powerful in the American mind...the charge is: Pat Buchanan is a racist. So let me ask you. Are you a racist, Pat?"

"Do I hate black folks?" Buchanan asked. "That's what racism mean— that I hate black folks, I want them discriminted against... No! It's not that. I do disagree profoundly with the affirmative action agenda, and a number of other issues but I've argued as I said with African American folks my whole life. Our schools that I went to, the Catholic schools, were the first ones desegregated in D.C."

Buchanan added, "Juan, you and I, if we sat there and watched cable 24 hours, we can hear people called [a racist] everyday. And it makes one of the points of [my book], that American society is disintegrating. It's breaking down and breaking apart because we've lost our common faith and common moral consensus...all of these things that once held us together."

At the end of the interview, Williams said, "I feel like we are brothers in understanding what these groups, on the left primarily, decided that you're not to be allowed to speak. They will banish you and make you an outcast and Pat, I'm sorry that's happened to you."

That was a great interview . I don't agree with Pat Buchanan on Domestic policy topics , but as for " foreign policy" he is correct 90% of the time.

He correctly points out the Israeli proxy group AIPAC and how they try to shape Americas foreign policy in a way that benefits Israel and costs America money and Lives.....

Based solely on the content of this article, Mr. Buchanan did not seem too "devastated" by Mr. Williams' question. He gave an answer and moved on.

Yes, Buchanan is a racist, anytime you are asked "are you a racist" and you feel the need to answer in any way other than "no" that means you are a racist.

Much the way Williams is a bigot.

Yeah, I had a bunch of pre-conceived notions about Al Sharpton, but I started watching his show and it is pretty good and even handed. I watch it on and off now.

Buchanan has been a public figure since the early '70s. Anyone who's willing to take an interest knows exactly who he is. Him along with the rest of the crowd that populates right wing radio have a right to speech as long as it doesn't create a civil disturbance. They are their own worse enemy. What is surprising is the portion of the public that consume their drivel, including people that I would never imagine simpathize with their "theology". Then everyone asks how a cult could exert control over individuals. It's not the strength of the cult, it's the weakness of the individual.

Buchanan's defense that he is not a racist is laughable. Not all racists hate African Americans or people of color. White southerners were famous for loving their maids or butlers, as long as they kept "their place." The main trait of racists is that they believe certain races are innately inferior in intellect. Many whites who don't hate blacks think they are incapable of intelligent leadership, hence much of the mindless opposition to Obama. From all that Buchanan has said and written over the years, he certainly is guilty of racism as charged.

So Pat wants to go back to separate but equal. As if the minorities were ever given anything that was equal.

Buchanan says: "Our schools that I went to, the Catholic schools, were the first ones desegregated in D.C." ------- The other "shoe" was ready to drop if he also told Williams that one of his "best friends is a colored guy"! (lol!)

I thought Catholic schools are private, and we're therefor exempt from that law ... I think he is prevaricating.

Were they 'desegregated' or not? Or were they 'segregated'?
It appears you are the one prevaricating. But then again that's
what you lib/progressives do......your only defense when confronted
with the truth.
05:47 AM on 03/02/2012
Private institutions are not exempt from the law, hence why a resturant cannot saying hang a sign that says "NO IRISH, BLACK, CAMBODIAN, OR DUTCH ALLOWED" And for the record, one cannot be a centrist or a progressive because it is a complete contradiciton of terms. Likewise, one cannot be a progressive and a democrat. Finally, referring to one's self as a centrist democrat is redundant. If you really want to share your political affiliation, something along the lines of "PROUD AND LOYAL SUPPORTER OF THE STATUS QUO" seems like it would be the most accurate and genuine. Hope that helped.

Sure very white person with a different point of view must be a racist...that's the liberal fascist religion at work. When in doubt throw down the racism card. Thinking is too hard for some people.

I could be wrong, but without even cracking the binder, I suspect it's derivative of the comparision that we have of America vis a vis the Roman Empire that has periodically been proposed for the past four decades and healthy portions of jingoism thrown in.
