Forbes:

We intuitively know that sleep is important, and a great deal of research on the health effects of sleeplessness backs up this belief. But what exactly is going on in our brains when we don't get enough shuteye?

The lack of cause-and-effect symptoms in this article makes my mental circuits over-heat.

On a related note, there are studies that support that depression is a natural, evolution-based mechanism of the brain to protect from excessive neuronal activity and damage to the 5HT1A receptor -- a way of cooling down over-firing of the circuitry.

In our over-stimulated society, we have become conditioned to the point that all the stimulation isn't even enough. Vast changes over the past 100 or so years, such as a electricity producing an always-on world, and the constant media flow, persist almost entirely unquestioned. We pay a heavy price for it, however.

Some sleep tips:
1) Create an evening ritual to calm yourself down. Include three different approaches to relaxing and quieting your mind.
2) Don't eat within three hours of bed time.
3) Relaxing yoga-type gentle stretching for the back and sides can release tension from the body very effectively.

4) Unfiltered light containing blue and green wavelengths prevents melatonin production, and may appears to have stimulative effect on the brain. Avoid light in the last couple or few hours of the day. It may sound silly, but not to anyone 100 years ago or more before electrically produced light changed circadian rhythms.

This includes:

- Turning off lights
- Avoiding or filtering light from televisions
- Installing F.lux (or similar) software on your computer, SunFilter (or similar) on your phone, which incrementally changes the screen's gamma setting by filtering out blue and green light.

Don't get enough sleep and worried about your mental circuits overheating? You need the Ice Cap. It's a hat that stores ice, keeping your mental circuits cool. You've probably seen similar products in catalogs going for over $10,000, but during this exclusive promotion, you can get an Ice Cap for only $29.95. And if you order within the next 30 minutes, we'll throw in a second Ice Cap, plus this handy screwdriver, for free. Just pay separate shipping and handling. Here's how to order....
