Posted: Updated:

The Muppets may have been bumped from performing their popular Oscar-winning song, but they had a much more distinguished honor: introducing Cirque du Soleil at the 2012 Academy Awards.

The Canadian circus troupe are world-renowned for their high-flying shows featuring world music and dazzling acrobatic displays (and if you've been to Las Vegas, you've probably taken in one of their popular tourist attractions).

In an effort to liven up the 84th Academy Award ceremony, producers invited the famous dance troupe to perform a special one-time only routine that celebrated the experience of going to the movies. The performance earned a rousing ovation from the audience at the Kodak Theater, but how did the audience at home take to it? Leave it to Twitter to comment in real-time the very honest reactions to Cirqu du Soleil's performance at the Academy Awards.
