Ron Paul: Rick Santorum Is 'Desperate'

Ron Paul Rick Santorum

The Huffington Post   Posted: 02/26/2012 11:13 am

Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul slammed rival Rick Santorum as "desperate" after the former Pennsylvania senator openly speculated Paul and Romney had teamed up against him.

"I don't know what all that meant," Paul told CBS News.

While campaigning ahead of Tuesday's Michigan and Arizona primaries, Santorum expressed his annoyance with Paul for his lack of attacks on Romney. Paul has said that the reason he's holding back from hitting Romney is so he can earn the votes of "the anti-Romney" candidate's supporters.

"Right now the anti-Romney candidate is Santorum, so I have to get his votes, as I did at one time with Gingrich," Paul said.

Paul's not the only one holding back attacks. During his much-hyped address at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Romney carefully avoided insulting Paul.

Romney supporter and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty has defended the two GOP hopefuls, saying he doesn't think Romney and Paul have cut a "back room deal."

"Paul has said that the reason he's holding back from hitting Romney is so he can earn the votes of 'the anti-Romney' candidate's supporters."
Ron Paul's explanation that he doesn't attack Romney because he's vying for the Not-Romney vote (instead of the For-Romney vote) doesn't make thorough sense. He could appeal to Not-Romney voters by attacking Romney, the same way that  Read More...

Does it surprise anyone that Santorum once again thinks he's entitled to demanding everything that everyone else does be only inline with his beliefs?

Well Stupid Santorum knows it is a losing race now so he figures he won't go down without a fight.

Every candidate except Paul advocates wars that benefit war profiteers. Dr Paul is slandered and marginalized, so all the mainstream media mesmerized people fall for it. Do other countries pose a real threat to us? We can vaporize any nation on earth in less than 1 hour and never have a soldier set a foot on their soil. An aggressive interventionist foreign policy will eventually escalate into another world war, if not now, certainly later.Watch intervention history and the greatest speech ever delivered, Charlie Chaplin in a movie (but very powerful).

If Ron Paul can accomplish no more in four years, than just bringing all of our troops home and enter into war with only a congressional declaration, that's enough. It's something he can do, just as any prior president could have done (but didn't). That's more than enough. It's the beginning of a path to peace and prosperity. It's far more than any of the other candidates propose (including our sitting president) or even willing to consider.

Obama made a promise to have all the troops home in his first 30 days ("you can take that to the bank"). How many active soldiers, knowing that the war they were fighting was bogus, voted for Obama based on that promise? How many have died since then, because Obama broke that promise? Obama has no worries that they will now change their vote because of his broken promise, because they are dead.

The President never promised to have all the troops home in his first 30 days. Why make up something when it only weakens your credibility?
By the way,the President has brought the combat troops home from Iraq and he has announced that troops will be coming home from Afghanistan.

Ron Paul is actually 2nd, if you are counting delegates.

Total Delegates (IA, NH, SC, FL, NV, MN, CO, ME)
Romney: 93 (6, 7, 2, 50, 14, 2, 7, 5)
Paul: 82 (13, 3, 0, 0, 5, 28, 17, 16)
Gingrich: 29 (0, 0, 23, 0, 6, 0, 0, 0)
Santorum: 25 (6, 0, 0, 0, 3, 7, 9, 0)
Unpledged: 14 (3, 2, 0, 0, 0, 3, 3, 3)

Here is the CNN story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPh2hf2SQB8

It may help to read up a bit on the caucus system and how it works. Delegates are selected post-caucus and sent up to the next level. Ron Paul is collecting delegates even though he isn't winning states.

Just watched Ron Paul interview on CNN last night. Love this guy, voting for him no matter what. Already have bumper stickers that say "Don't blame me, i voted for Ron Paul". The rest of you can bicker over which central banker candidate you pick, Romney or Obama. Either way, it's $21 trillion in national debt by 2016.

It would be great to see a debate between Obama and Ron Paul at the finals. Now, that would be worth to watch, compared to this insane-clown circus car, we call GOP campaigns.

They should have finished the quote from Tim Palwenty. He said I know Paul and he is the most unlikely person to make a back room deal in Washington. But putting that aside if one realizes that Paul and Mitt are not really competing for the same voter block then it makes sense to challenge Santorum for the same votes he is going for. I am from Pa and the world should understand what Santorum is before they vote for him. My experience is he is dirty and especially when he bailed to Virgina.

Ron Paul's textbook libertarianism,if mated with realism, would be the ideal prescription for American politics...
Now,his stuborness in maintaining extreme views,,makes him... "good but unelectable"...

In any case,he should not make personal attacks & offend other candidates...
He should remain a gentleman...
12:10 PM on 02/27/2012
You need to look at Ron Paul's proposals a bit further. While his ideals may be fairly close to libertarianism (a constitutionalist is closer to the truth) his proposals are not because he recognizes that the country isn't ready to go there and that such massive change would have it's own problems. Take Social Security for example. Philosophically, the idea of "forced savings" must be repugnant to him but he hasn't proposed banning it, he's proposed cutting foreign spending (mostly military) and using that savings to make sure the people who've paid in get their benefits and then allow young workers to opt out if they wish.

It's a long story...
