Shailene Woodley Oscar Dress 2012: Was Her White Valentino Too Stuffy? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Shailene Woodley confused us all on Sunday night when she told Ryan Seacrest she was studying to be an "herbalist." But we were also a little befuddled by her dress: a white, long-sleeved Valentino couture gown.

With its bulky sleeves and tight neckline, the heavy white gown made the "The Descendants" actress, who's only 20, look twice her age. We know you're not afraid to show off your figure, Shailene -- so we wish you'd chosen something a little more youthful.

But are we wrong? Check out the photos and weigh in below:

I've seen better, certainly, but it's actually a quite lovely dress...

The dress is classy and beautiful, but it's a dress for Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Glen Close, etc. That's not a dress for a young woman.

When a woman WANTS to show her figure she should, just because she has what is deemed a a "Nice" one and is young does not mean that she is obligated to reveal it. All they comments about her dress choice I think are so sexist. Should young male stars come to the Oscars sleeveless, or in some ab revealing get up? I think that she should actually be applauded. SO many young starlets are running around with everything their mama and their surgeon gave them hanging out. I thought she looked lovely and clearly the choice made her a stand out. note to all young actresses on the come up, cover up and get coverage! http://mybodymyimage.com

Beautiful dress, but too old a style for such a young girl. There are many classy dresses that would be far more age appropriate.

So, because she`s 20, she`s not allowed to be demure and classy, but should instead show some skin ? Wow.

She said "I'm obsessed with it". How many other actors have the audacity to express their emotions this well?

"Obsessed." That's all that matters, media. Now shut up and bark up some other tree.

I think she looks great. I am biased though. I loved the Descendants.

I love it! Classy, simple, and respectable... Very sexy, people always think you need to show skin to accomplish sexy but women like this prove you don't.

It's a modest, attractive, albeit a bit too matronly, gown. It wouldn't have been my number one choice for her, with that pretty face and figure, but I think this young lady sees herself as mature and sensible, which is how she appears. Others clearly do, too, judging from what Clooney has said about her. I find it a refreshing change of pace from the overexposed JLo look, frankly.

Everything about the look screams old lady. The hair, everything.

Sorry, it looks like something an elderly matron would wear to the opera. To all you gripers, there is a way to look attractive without wearing a JLo outfit. There are lots of dresses that are fashionable and attractive without looking either stuffy or sleazy.

Very matronly. Off the subject for a minute. Did Angelina Jolie pose or what. Amazing how she thinks that she has something to show. Those thin legs. I like her though. She's cool.

It's refreshing to see a young actress wearing a beautiful, flattering dress that doesn't feature a slit up to her cervix, a neckline down to her navel, and a low-cut back that rivals a plumber's décolletage. She looked like a wonderful gift, yet to be unwrapped, which is about as sexy as you can get. I wish more young women would adopt her philosophy. She looked amazing!

I couldn't have said it better. Sadly most actresses look like they're ready to pole dance.

The dress is OK but the style is appropriate for a much older woman, not for one so young.
