Viola Davis Oscars Dress 2012: Green Vera Wang & Natural Hair! (PHOTOS)

Best Actress nominee and Anna Wintour pal Viola Davis ditched her wig and donned bright green at Sunday night's Oscars: two moves we're definitely applauding.

In a long and flowing Vera Wang mermaid-style gown and green drop earrings, Davis looked stunning -- and notably, she continued to forsake her hairpiece, showing up with her hair au naturel. Love it!

But while we adore her hair, we're not as sure that we love the ruffles and pleating at the bottom of Viola's dress. What do you think?

I love this color green on her. She looked like she was having the time of her life. So happy and excited. I am proud of her for going natural, even joan rivers voted her best dressed of the night. I wish more actress would embrace their natural beauty more.

This natural style for Viola was done by stylist Jamika Wilson, owner of Identity Salon in Carson, Ca. I think Jamika really managed to bring out the best look for Viola, she looks younger and you can focus on Viola's wonderful facial features.

Viola is gorgeous! However, I think a stronger lipstick color might have helped to anchor her hair color, since the tint's so close to her skin color. Go 'head, and wear your hair, girl, proudly!

She looked great—the red hair with the dress added nice depth and glamour to the overall look but I actually like it better black. I've seen her in wigs where she looks equally good and natural looks great but everybody can't pull that off.

She's beautiful. Black don't crack. She's 46 and she looks 26! Look at that smooth chocolate skin! Not a wrinkle in sight!

I hated the dress but the colour looked beyond amazing against her skin. I love her hair. Not many people seem to be feeling the colour but I quite like it even though I'll admit that it seems to wash her out, black hair would be perfect on her. I love that she was bold enough to wear her natural hair on the red carpet but it is quite sad that a Black woman wearing her hair in its natural state, the way it grows out of her head, is seen as a bold statement. Natural hair should be the norm but I have hope that one day it will be that way. It seems a lot of women are waking up and not believeing the lye. I'm all for changing up your style, colour, length but when people don't know how to take care of their natural hair because they've had weaves and perms since they were 11...there's a problem. That's a debate for another day though. I just got my 19 y/o sister to go natural and she looks amazing. Looking good Viola...hopefully there's an Oscar in your future.

I know a "bit" of how Ms. Davis feels although I'm a white women, let me explain. I'm 59 and have been coloring my hair for 30 yrs and have been covering my gray for 20 and I've had it. I happen to run into a woman I knew almost a year ago who had grown out her hair and she looked great. So the last time I had my hair colored was in Sept. and I have a few more months to go to be all gray. I feel so liberated to have my natural color and not have to have a standing appointment every 6 weeks to cover my gray. So to see Ms. Davis there with her own hair showing was great and I congratulate her for having the faith in herself to show the world her real beauty not the beauty that society thinks is acceptable. Also she looked like a knockout in that dress.

poodlemom, Fanned and faved. As a Black woman who wears her hair natural, I know exactly how Ms Davis feels. However, I must tell you I am in between your age and ms Davis, but i am hanging on to the color. My girlfriend's mother is 82 and still coloring her hair.

Absolutely Gorgeous! I loved the whole look head to toe. Truly, all Black women can appreciate how free and comfortable in her own skin she is at that moment. The time of weave, wigs, and braids is counting down to an end...and right on time!

Hello Adonijah; Sorry Sista, I have to disagree. As a red-head I must admit I'm partial. But I loved her hair. If I see one mo' blonde Sista methinks I'll start screamin' and neva stop. Have a great day. Personally, I'm waitin' for mine to turn completely. The temples are pretty much gray, but the rest is a bit here and a bit there. Gray hair? I don't care. Gray hair beats no hair. Just my opinion. Life.

Hello dmoorie; I know that's right. Have you seen the beauteous Sista Esperanza Spalding? Got a natural like back when Sistas were proud to sport their hair naturally. She puts a number of weave-wearin', blonde haired Sistas in the shade. Plus the Sista know she can sang her butt off. Yes LAWD. Life.
