5 Protesters Arrested During Saturday's 'F*ck The Police' Rally

Protesters Allegedly Threw Urine During 'F*ck The Police' Rally

On Saturday, a group of 60 to 70 protesters, reportedly including members of Internet activist collective Anonymous, marched on 16th Street Mall around 7 p.m. in a rally against police brutality called "Fuck The Police" by the protesters, according to Westword.

9News reports that five protesters were arrested at the rally for tagging police, personal and RTD vehicles with graffiti. According to multiple reports, some protesters were tagging the anarchy symbol (the letter A with a circle around it) onto some vehicles. Other protesters chanted obscenities about the police and also allegedly threw lit fireworks, paint balls and balloons filled with urine.

Although initial reports about the event stated that it was an Occupy Denver sanctioned protest, Occupy Denver made a statement on their website denying involvement in the protest:

Occupy Denver would like to clarify mistaken information published in a recent Westword article and circulated on various internet blogs. The “F*ck the Police March” being planned for Saturday, February 25th, is not an Occupy Denver event. There is a very clear distinction between what is an Occupy Denver event and what is not. Only events that are ratified by our General Assembly are considered Occupy Denver events, and Occupy Denver’s General Assembly never decided on or even discussed supporting this action.

Tim Holland, a member of Occupy Denver, also told Westword, "Although 'fuck the police' is a sentiment that is widely shared by many people who have been brutalized by the Denver Police, this Saturday's 'Fuck The Police' march is not an Occupy Denver event."
