Kenny Mixon: Former Miami Dolphins Player Arrested, Accused Of Hitting, Choking Girlfriend
Former Miami Dolphins defensive end Kenny Mixon has been charged with one count of domestic battery after a fight over Valentine's Day at his Weston home.
Mixon, 36, was arrested Sunday afternoon after he was accused of hitting and choking his girlfriend. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office incident report, the woman called 911 to report he had thrown her into a mirror, grabbed her neck, and kicked her:
Upon arrival in the area I did observe the defendant leaving the front of the house in a vehicle. We spoke to each other from the vehicles and I told him to return to his home, 100 feet, that I might investigate... the victim ran out the front door crying and telling me that her boyfriend had just beat her up.
..She informed me that when her boyfriend exited the shower earlier she spoke to him about Valentine's Day and an argument started. Victim advised [Mixon] pushed her against a glass mirror, breaking same. Victim fell on ground in closet and [Mixon] stood over her and grabbed her around the neck and kicked her on right thigh.
The arresting officer noted that Mixon's girlfriend had visible abrasions and reddened areas on her neck, left elbow, and left knee -- and though Mixon told them she had punched and scratched him, he showed no similar injuries. Mixon was taken into custody, and remains in the Broward County main jail on $6,500 bond Monday morning.
Ex-Dolphins in legal trouble may be no uncommon thing in South Florida, but Mixon was already no stranger to trouble. After playing three seasons with the Fins, who selected him in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft, the LSU grad went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings where he managed to be arrested three times in a year and a half on suspicion of DUI. After being suspended for two games during the 2004 season, he was released by the Vikings.
