Mitt Romney's NASCAR Team Owner Friends Donated To His Campaign

Visiting the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Mitt Romney told a reporter, "I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners," namedropping two: Johnny Morris and Richard Childress. (Listen to audio of Romney's remarks here.)

One of those "great friends" was also a donor to the Romney campaign. Childress donated $2,500 in June to the candidate, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Three other NASCAR owners gave money to the Romney campaign during this election cycle. Joe Gibbs Racing president JD Gibbs gave $500. Andrew Murstein, whose company has a partial stake in Richard Petty Motorsports, gave $250. Walter Czarnecki, the executive vice president of the parent company of Penske Racing, donated $1,000.
