This is just sad. I understand profit. I understand growing that profit and economically thriving. That is very American and that mindset should be encouraged. However, when the cost of such profit is at the expense our natural agricultural stem, the health of your family, the future of your offspring and the general well-being of the planet that sustains life... is that really profitability? I think not. Monsanto is is horrible, but the system that allows them to operate and thrive is the real criminal here.

ARGENTINA: The harvest of death. Pollutes the country glyphosate

The spraying of pesticides in the Argentine countryside are poisoning much of the population. The types of cancer and diseases they produce. The incredible story of Estanislao, the pesticide-soaked baby. The worst affected areas and the threats of the soybean. Wrenching testimony.(http://www.adital.com.br/site/noticia.asp?lang=ES&cod=64752) (http://ecos-deromang.blogspot.com/2012/02/la-cosecha-de-la-muerte.html)

t is no longer news that a few powerful corporations have literally occupied the vast majority of human sustenance. The situation is perilous: nearly all of human food production, seeds, food processing and sales, is run by a handful of for-profit firms which, like any capitalist enterprise, function to maximize profit and gain ever-greater market share and control. The question has become: What do we do about this disastrous alignment of pure profit in something so basic and fundamental to human survival?

It is time -- now, not next year -- to de-occupy Walmart. And Archer Daniels Midland. And Tyson Foods. And Monsanto. And Cargill. And Kraft Foods. And the other large corporations that decide what ends up on our plates. Take all our money out, public and personal, from our shopping dollars to school district lunch contracts to the corporate subsidies that uphold these firms' grip on our food supply, and invest it in a new system that's economically diverse and ecologically sustainable.

These corporations' stranglehold over food has wreaked havoc on the environment, our health, farmers, workers, and our very future. It is time for an end to Big Food, and a societal shift to something radically different. We all deserve a future where what we eat feeds community and land, instead of eroding soils, polluting water and air, and tossing away small farmers and immigrant workers as if they were balance sheet losers.

Without reading the article and not sure what evidence was provided by the Organic Growers, they should ck to see if the judge was paid off. Monsanto is one of the worse corp giants along w Dow Chem., and W.R. Grace etc. I don't see how the judge couldn't grant a little leeway for the Growers to present their case.

the anti-science/anti-GMO crowd loses yet again.

Don't they have anything better to do than clog the courts with frivolous lawsuits?

I'm actually a scientist, and the issue of what Monsanto is experimenting with goes beyond legal offenses. They are playing god with the genetic diversity of food crops.

I don't have an issue with all GMO crops, I have an issue with Monsanto's ethical practices--which are nonexistent, so far as I can tell.

No surprise that the courts would rule in favor of corporate interests. Monsanto is a monopoly. They control 80% of soybean seed and 70% of corn seed. Why aren't our rulers busting them up? Just sayin'.
07:45 PM on 03/01/2012
no, they most certainly do not own anywhere near that amount of the market

But try to find seed that isn't in some way, shape, or form involved with Monsanto? Even if you buy a green bell pepper from a local organic farmer, you don't have any -real- reassurances that it's not grown from seed that's 2-degrees removed from the giant.

And if everyone started growing their own gardens, the farmer gets put out of work. So it's kind of a catch-22 unless you're really, truly interested in doing your homework, and live in a climate where you can grow for you and your family's needs year-round. Many of us aren't.
