Oscars 2012: Cirque Du Soleil's Academy Award Performance (VIDEO)

Moments after New York Times critic A.O. Scott tweeted a comparison between last night's Oscars and "some kid's bar mitzvah," all sorts of things happened to confirm said feeling. Billy Crystal kept talking, muppets showed up, and the acrobats of every 13-year-old Jewish kid's dreams took the stage. Cirque du Soleil, the most famous Canadian entity after Best Supporting Actor Christopher Plummer, swung, spun and flew through the air with the greatest of ease, prompting Crystal to echo the Twitterverse by calling the night ā€œjust a pony away from a Bar Mitzvah.ā€ Full circle, people. Just like the shape a Cirque du Soleil employee makes in the air.

I think HuffPost blew it with the opening paragraph of its link to Cirque de Soleil's Oscar performance. The text reads like an introduction to some tepid, boring, please-don't-make-me-go, event when the Post could have enticed a whole lot more people to the site to view this really UP lifting video of the amazing Cirque de Soleil.

As usual, Cirque outshines all. My question is, why didn't the producers of Spider-man the musical use Cirque? How many accidents did they have and Cirque did this for just one night?

They rocked that shizz. Thank kinogod no one sang an Oscar song or danced to an Oscar tune. There was not a big fall on its face plant epic fail choreographed number where everyone takes a pee break. Instead it was an awesome tail of the audience's connection to the thrills of cinema. The cirque should be forever linked to Oscar as the go to for numbers.
