Much like Proenza Schouler's show last season, there was a surf-inspired vibe on several of the spring 2012 runways, one that not only referenced the sport itself, but the movement and colors of the deep blue sea. Labels like Rag & Bone riffed on scuba gear by using neoprene and parachute fabrics, while designers Peter Pilotto and Miuccia Prada incorporated actual swimwear into their collections. Key color palettes for the look include electric neons and deep blues and greens that are just as easy to wear as spring's ever-popular pastels. To try out the trend, trade your lighter fabrics for something with an athletic edge, and don't be afraid to suit up for the surf even if you're still on dry land.
