Colbert Mocks Romney's Ford Field Speech, Santorum's 'Snob' Comment (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/28/2012 2:26 pm Updated: 02/28/2012 2:26 pm

On Monday night's show, Colbert looked forward to today's Michigan primary by analyzing both Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum's campaigns there.

From Romney's empty-seated stadium speech at Ford Field to Santorum's charge that President Obama is a "snob" for wanting every American to go to college, it's clear that the candidates are attempting to pull out all the stops.

Colbert poked fun at Romney's small turnout at his stadium speech, but praised the candidate for really connecting with "those empty seats by also being plastic and uncomfortable."

But it was Santorum's "snob" charge that gave Colbert the most fodder, as he did the candidate one better by attacking higher education snobbery in all its forms, including vocational-school elitism.

The fantastic humor of Colbert, Stewart, SNL, Black, etcetcetc makes one WANT to hear more of the rightwing drivel. I've yet to witness a righty comedian...say anything. The best humor always has its' roots firmly embedded in truth, which may explain the lack of conservative comedians. Though the laughs are healthy, what the republicans have been trying to achieve, for a long, long, time, is chaotic government, less LAW enforcement of civil rights, one religion, cheap labor, white domination, pyramid-scheme economics, strike at ANYONE or ANYTHING they may disagree with......................aint' funny at all. Now I'm pretty depressed... again.

Not to mention the historical fact that humorists never made history by defending the status quo. They shook things up for the rich and powerful, but made it funny. One of my favorite lines to this day is an old Lenny Bruce routine in which Cardinal Spellman of New York is complaining about Jesus returning to earth: "They don't want anymore quotations from the Bible; they want us to SAY THINGS!"

Bill Maher said the whole "new" Republican Party is a comedian's wet dream. Colbery, Stewart, and Maher should be shown in highschools as a class in modern history.

Colbert and Stewart must be secretly thanking their lucky stars that these clowns give them this never-ending treasure trove of material. I find that I am almost never disappointed by what they come up with.

Another reason why I love Colbert. No one seemed to have any defense yesterday for my pointing out that Santorum had NINE YEARS of "far-left ideological indoctrination" (BA at Penn State, MBA at Pitt, Law Degree, if you can call it that, at Penn State), and then for a nightcap Stephen brings it up. Love ya SC. Rough last seven days for Frothy.

Santorum's faith was never in danger -- he avoided college by going to Penn State.

I was at Ford Field when Romney gave his speech, and I did not see any snobs. That may be because the audience was comprised entirely of members of the grounds keeping crew. Since I am curious by nature, I asked one if he was a snob. He kicked sand on my shoes. I took that for a "no." In fact, I got 12 "no's." Oh, I want Alfredo to know I will bring his rake back as soon as I finish planting my garden. He may not know I borrowed it.
