Koala Running

If you're looking for a bit of cuteness today, look no further to Yabbra the koala.

In this adorable YouTube video, the animal is spotted behind the scenes at the Edinburgh Zoo.

The clip shows Yabbra wandering the halls of the zoo after he hangs out in his outdoor sanctuary. Like most Koalas, he can sleep for around 22 hours in a single day. But when he's awake, he's really awake.

Yabbra is one of only two Koalas in the U.K., according to the Edinburgh Zoo. Born in 2005, Yabbra's name is Aboriginal for “the fugitive,” as he kept popping out of his mother’s pouch at a very early age.

According to National Geographic, a recent report issued by the Australian government noted that koala populations were decreasing and the animals had been deemed threatened.

Other not-to-be-missed adorable videos include these orphaned baby wombats playing in a sanctuary and this kitten snuggling up to a deer.

Watch the adorable video ABOVE of the koala at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland and checkout the BELOW slideshow of other baby animals.

I was lucky enough to be at the San Diego Zoo when one woke up (in the daytime) & started running around near where I was standing. Suddenly people came out of nowhere to run over to where I had been all alone just a few seconds before. Some man told me I didn't know how lucky I was to see one with that much energy, and during their 'sleeping' hours. I treasure that memory so much. Want so much to visit Australia some day & get to see them in their natural habitat.

"Crickey" and "Too cute" ??!!
According to the article, these animals are "deemed threatened". Get this poor little koala bear to a tree, in a natural environment. Come on, Huff Post, this looks like a scene out of a horror movie.

A long time ago many animals who wound up in some zoo somewhere were stolen from the wild and their mothers at a very young age, and the mother was generally killed in the process. It was a disgusting, evil and inhumane practice, done only for greed and reputation. Many of these babies were so poorly treated they never made it alive to their destination.
We have come a very long way now. Most of the animals you see are either rescued from people who should not have them to begin with and they are entirely too used to humans to ever survive in what should have been their natural habitat, odds are this cutie pie has never seen the wilds of Australia and wouldn't last a day out there, or have been injured due to human (shocker there, right?) interference and generally injuring the animal. So many people, not realizing this cry out for " justice" wanting this animal freed and not realizing by doing so they are actually calling for the animal's death sentence.

There are days when I feel like I could sleep 22 hrs! Right?!

Too cute!

Really?! Why is this Koala "running down a hallway"? He/she should be outside on a tree, eating Eucalyptus leaves. This place looks like a prison, for crying out loud.

Koala's are cute, but rather dumb. They spend so much of the energy they get from their food neutralizing the toxins from the leaves they eat, that they can't function their brains properly. They glazed over sleepy look they always have is exactly that. not firing on all cylinders.

yep. 20% of the energy they get from the eucalyptus leaves goes into countering the toxins of the eucalyptus. It doesn't leave much for anything else. They are the only large marsupial that eats eucalyptus after all

I should qualify the previous comment, as Koala's are the only exclusive eucalyptus eaters. brush-tailed, and ring-tailed possums do eat them, but only after they eating all the flowers, fruits, nuts etc
03:55 AM on 03/01/2012
They're not too dumb in the Australian bush where they belong, not cold, stone corridors in a northern hemisphere zoo.

There are plenty of Aussies in the UK to keep them company. Not in a zoo anyway. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but that stoned look they always seem to have is for a reason.

My uncle was a veteranarian in Australia for 30 years, he's now deceased. He worked with these cuties, I have boxes of pictures of him holding them, playing with them and being bitten and scratched by them. they are mostly docile but can get rather rowdy if they don't like the way you handle them.

I lived in Australia....and had the chance to interact with Koalas.

Their bodies are tiny...their fur is like an afro. And oh, with what they eat, they smell like Vick's vapo-rub.

I'm jealous, my uncle used to tell me that if you made a friend of one they would cuddle with you and follow you around. I would love to hold one.

Koalas have always been my favorite animal. I know deep down inside that if I held one, I would do nothing but cry tears of joy! I'm a giddy mess just watching this.....
