'Conan' Chinese Rip-Off Gets Taste Of Own Medicine (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/29/2012 9:39 am Updated: 02/29/2012 9:39 am

Conan O'Brien made a surprising discovery recently -- a Chinese variety show, "Da Pang," is ripping off the opening title sequence from his show without permission. And not almost, sort of ripping off. The show lifts the title sequence from "Conan" almost frame-by-frame.

And this is an injustice for which Conan will not stand. After viewing the actual Chinese variety show in question, Conan couldn't make heads or tails of what it was trying to accomplish. Imagine watching "Yo Gabba Gabba" after eating some bad, hallucenagenic Chinese food, and you might get this program.

So Conan did the logical thing and ripped off that show by stealing elements of that show and putting them on his talk show. Frankly, we think the "giggling Chinese schoolgirl" look doesn't look bad on Andy Richter.

And to think, China would do this to Conan after he did such a great job delivering their culture's cuisine around New York City.

This is really common in China. They even do this with famous songs all the time in Chinese. Admittedly they do change the lyrics...

The worst part isn't that they copy things, as that's never going to stop in a country that due to the education system strips them of creativity (not all, but mostly), the worst part is they then see the American version and then say it was copied from China!

I've even had some telling me English phrases said in a slightly Chinese accent was actual Mandarin and comes from their country! Soon my language will be assimilated... :(
