George Clooney Addresses Gay Rumors, Same-Sex Marriage And 'Bromance' With Brad Pitt In 'The Advocate'

George Clooney

He's long been the subject of rampant tabloid speculation over his sexuality, but George Clooney says he doesn't mind.

In a new interview with The Advocate's Brandon Voss, the 50-year-old Hollywood hunk comes clean about those paparazzi rumors while revealing intimate details of his so-called "bromance" with "Ocean's Eleven" co-star Brad Pitt and speaking at length about his much-publicized support for marriage equality.

"I think it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down, saying, 'These are lies!' That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community," Clooney said. "I'm not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing. My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I'm gay? I'll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don't give a sh*t."

As for his relationship with Pitt, Clooney clarifies that while the pair is frequently photographed together at award shows and other events, "the truth is that we see each other very rarely, maybe a couple times a year." He went on to note, "I've had great fun spending time with my friend again over the awards season. Not only do I enjoy him as a person and respect his talent, but I also love what he does in the world. I can’t speak highly enough about how hard he works at making the world better."

So why does "The Descendants" star -- who will next be seen in Dustin Lance Black's play "8," about California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage -- feel so passionate about marriage equality? "It's always been this albatross that stood out to me as the final leg of the civil rights movement," he told Voss. "Well before Prop. 8, I've made the point that every time we’ve stood against equality, we’ve been on the wrong side of history. It’s the same kind of argument they made when they didn’t want blacks to serve in the military, or when they didn’t want blacks to marry whites. One day the marriage equality fight will look as archaic as George Wallace standing on the University of Alabama steps keeping James Hood from attending college because he was black. People will be embarrassed to have been on the wrong side."

In 2009, gossip sites went wild with headlines that suggested the "Twilight" star was a lesbian. However, a closer look at Stewart's quotes reveals how she was actually responding to a question over the nature of her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson:
"I've thought about this a lot. There's no answer that's not going to tip you one way or the other. Think about every hypothetical situation. 'OK, we are. We aren't. I'm a lesbian.' I probably would've answered if people hadn't made such a big deal about it. But I'm not going to give the finding an answer."

Hey George when they ask what you are.
Simply turn to them and say "I am a Homosapien..."
"What are you"?
Odds are pretty good they will be scrambling to google what a Homosapien is.
I think all the idiots who tear into somebody's life just because they are in the public eye.
Need to get themselves a life!!!!
Who cares what anybody is.
They are just people with relationships, both male and female.
I have both male and female friends.
It's nobodys business what team I play for (but think as you like) and that is the way it should be.

Or when all the liberal elite were against extending personhood to developing human beings in wombs...WHOOPS. Did I just point out the hypocrisy in the liberal message?

The truth is we should be for equal marriage AND against abortion. But in a two party system where one side is for one and not the other, and the other side is the opposite, we're never going to get anywhere now are we...

George is NOT! I have known him since he was a young boy. His parents and sister's and us would go swimming and on picnics years ago. They let him be a kid. I have pics of us swimming in an old swimming hole. This was way before his desire to become a actor. His Aunt Rosemary kinda led him into becoming an actor or into any type of show business. And he is not, I assure you.

Remaining a bachelor in your 50's is no more of an indication that someone is a homosexual than being married means you are heterosexual. I am sure that we all either know, or have heard of someone who is, or has been married and is leading a secret homosexual lifestyle. On a side note though: the secret to getting George to walk down the aisle is to treat him like he' s someone that you just want to spend some time with once and awhile. Openly date, flirt and act like you are into him one minute, and then act as if he doesn't exist the next. Some people may think that these are games, but it seems to work whether you like it or not.

Yeah, it can work your way to a divorce, like it did my ex wife.

Seems that rumors of being gay were once seen as box-office poison. Now being LBGT just makes you more intriguing. I watch one of my favorite actors tell the world on tv, and in the Tabs. that she is straight (and only plays a lesbian on tv) She continues to ignore my advice that she tell everyone "to stick it where the sun don't shine" and that it's better for your career if you keep them guessing. But she must have old-school management that want to pair her up with men to keep the ABC suits happy. (Sara, are you listening???)

He's an actor who looks almost impossibly good for his age and has a couple of cute, long-term friendships with other male actors.

good answer george,,,let them think what they want,,,

Sure seems odd he has never been married. He has GF's for short runs then single again. One might compare his situation to Rock Hudson. The studio system Rock was under way back when paired him with women when we all know now he was gay. Come on out of the closet George. The gays will have your back anytime.

Snobbish and elitist. Two Bs in the first, no E in the second.

Sorry. Was that snobbish and elitist of me? My bad. ;)

Gay, bi or straight, George Clooney is a great actor, a handsome man and a generous man.
