Ohio School Shooting Victims: Danny Parmertor's Parents Reflect On Child's Death (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/29/2012 1:22 pm Updated: 03/ 1/2012 12:47 am

Danny Parmertor
Danny Parmertor was one of three students who passed away as a result of Monday's shooting at Chardon High School in Ohio.

Danny Parmertor's parents want their son to be remembered as "a funny, loveable kid who would help you with anything."

The 16-year-old boy, one of three Parmertor children, lost his life along with two other innocent victims when T.J. Lane allegedly opened fire on Monday at Ohio's Chardon High School.

"I have to think about going to a funeral home, picking out a casket. What is that, picking out a casket for your son? We're supposed to go and pick out colleges and supposed to go visit Ohio State next month. I'm mad now. I'm mad," Dina Parmertor told CBS News on Tuesday.

The mother, a nurse, was driving home from a late shift when she turned on the radio and heard the news. She described a "sick feeling" in her stomach and feared for her son's safety. She tried her son's cell phone but there was no answer.

"Danny, it's Mom, call me back," the mother described her voicemail as she held back tears, according to CBS.

The boy's father, Bob Parmertor, told the network that he knows that "life will never be the same."

"I will get better, but right now, I'll never be, there will always be something missing," he said.

The accused shooter, Thomas "T.J." Lane, 17, reportedly opened fire around 7:30 a.m. At the time, Parmertor and several friends were seated at a cafeteria table waiting for a bus to take them to a vocational school for a Cisco computer network course, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

This is one of the saddest stories I've followed in a long time. Ordinary people in a small town --- the usual dynamics, kids, parents, teachers, some from solid families, one kid who came from more or less nothing. Like his victims, T.J. Lane never had a chance in life. Maybe less of a chance than the kids he shot, because at least they had families who cared about him.

Not an excuse for him, by any means. He's a lost soul. But maybe we can learn something by trying to understand what made him the way he is --- maybe something that will help us keep other kids from following in his footsteps.

How about parents acting like adults and not screwing up their own lives so their kids don't reap the punishment?
10:34 AM on 03/01/2012
Ok someone please tell me if he was not bullied - What led him to just opening fire on the school! There is something not being said by the police - Why was this young man so angry. The police need to say Why - to put the questions to rest. As I said I was a victim of bullied but I am sure people will say I bullied too and I will be the first to say "I did" right back to those damn spoiled rotten kids who bullied me.

As a school administrator I wonder what is happening to society!!!! Columbine seems to have become an example of how to deal with problems! I blame the media! I blame technology, kids today have access to way too many devices... Not sure what it will take to wake up the World! The new book of revelations state, "the World is coming to an end when the children become wicked"!!! Well, folks we are almost there! My heart goes out to the family, friends and classmates of these children!!! They are in a better place!!! (just not by choice)

Hate to break this to you, but organized religion is the source of nearly every problem in our society.  It forms for the mental foundation for lying and manipulative behavior and above all else - it teaches people to "go along" no matter how badly they are being wronged.  Don't rock the boat.  Even if your kids are shooting each other at school - don't question the system.

It makes me sick to see the gunmen in court later on with all of the defenses their attorneys cook up to save their skins. Suddenly the perp's are filled with remorse and concern for the victims' families. I just hope the judge can put himself in the victims' and their families' places on the day of the crime and feel their pain when it's time to sentence this person, and while listening to his, and his attorneys', pleas for leniency.

Who needs schools? Kids can get an education through the internet and distance learning. But then again parents would not have someone to baby sit their kids during the day.

I can't even imagine how Danny's parents feel right now. I get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think about losing one of my kids. Life would be so difficult. Everyone would be sad including Danny's two siblings. Kids should not pass on before their parents. I just don't get it. Why didn't the shooter just take his own life if he was so miserable. If he was being bullied, he should have been depressed, not angry. I pray that all the victims and their families and friends get through this tragedy!

PalmSpringsLife - Jesus already spoke on what to do with T.J. & other show shed blood:

"If a man shedeth man's blood, let their blood be shed" ... and "man" refers to mankind, i.e., women & children.

DOESN'T A JESUS ECHOING INDIVIDUAL READ THEIR BIBLE ???
06:43 AM on 03/01/2012
That's an Old Covenant command , "A life for a life an eye for an eye." Jesus acually said to love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you and to forgive others.

That isn't anything I would say to the victims at this point in time but eventually they will have to forgive or this will destroy them.

an absurd statement in a trying time... You go read your bible... I applaud the the mother of the third victim. She has forgiven Mr. Lane for what he did. She understands her faith and religion far greater than you. Did Jesus not forgive you of all your sins unconditionally? Learn a little more about your bible, the difference between the old and new testament. But then again, you probably like to pick and choose what you want out of it. With all the abominations in Leviticus, we'd all be dead I guess...

Mike Ritter - Leviticus is as much part of God's Word as the remainder of the Bible is, and though some Levitical Laws have been "fulfilled" with Christ's appearnace on earth, READ Matthew 5, where HE declares he did not come to do away with The Law - and sir, there is no new Biblical "prescedent" for what we are to do with those who shed blood, so you "forgive" all you want, and cuddle all you want - those who butcher humanity, but "as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord" in obedience to His TRUTH - and not your cocamime and unfounded notions. READ: Rev. 22:18 & 19 sir !

Isaiah rightly declares, "those who READ shall not fail" and therein lies the PROBLEM, for most of us pick up the Bible, "here a little and there a little" until we "fall backward", as Isaiah also declares, and - BY THE WAY- God is the ONLY one who can forgive sins, so the third victims mom is off base also - for though God commands us to forgive one another 70 times 7 daily, again sir - READ the context of this, for this forgiveness applies ONLY to those who "ask for it" .

PEOPLE, GET IT TOGETHER - before spouting off on any subject matter that you have failed to look into with any serious consideration - and especailly when you say, "thus sayth the Lord" for you will be held just as accountable

The victims were not the ones doing the bullying....it was open fire and so three innocent lives were taken....one of my nephews kept getting bullied..only because he wouldn't smoke pot...so when he finally started to using his fist...who got in trouble...my nephew...so four months before graduation he and 27 other students all seniors quit school...went on to get the GED's and everyone of them turned out with excellent jobs...the school system needs to crack down on those who bully...listen to the students for a change...and dismiss the guilty ones from school permanently....

First, the prosecutor stated after interviewing Mr. Lane, that bullying was not involved. People were/are so quick to make judgements without all the facts... People are angry and so many seek revenge not justice.

I agree...I wish these all these children who have grown up in the shadow of Colombine and zero tolerance would wake up and realize that bullying is the reason for these school shootings...no more children have to die or commit suicide if their peers would just go to school to learn and respect each other as human beings.. to not single out someone because they are different...next time it could be their school, their cafeteria...bullying leads to pain, torment and often times rage and revenge that leads to loss of so many lives....

This kid was not bullied. You are not sent to an alternative school for BEING bullied. You are sent there when YOU are the problem. You are not sent there for failing school. You are sent there when you are causing problems at school. Excuses dont help Travel. It only makes things worse. Think before you comment. The "poem" sounded to me like he was made at kids that "had it all". Mad at kids for being happy and were being taken care of by their parents because he wasnt being. It didnt sound like he was being bullied to me. Sounded to me like a angry mentally disturbed kid.

You are partially correct. There are many more reasons why kids are sent to alternative HS. However, the prosecutor stated that bullying was not the reason. He also stated that "something is not well." Mr. Lane did come from a somewhat dysfunctional family. Both parents had criminal records. The father spent time in prison for assault when he held a girlfriends head under water and then preceded to bash it into a wall leaving a dent. The uncle, who I believed lived in the house had multiple (as in many) guns. This is how T J got the .22.
11:16 PM on 02/29/2012
People who are bullied don't have to shoot innocent people.

It ain't gonna change. More guns = more shootings. Get used to it.

There were "more" guns 100 years ago, so why weren’t there "more shootings”?
02:03 AM on 03/01/2012
Just a thought - maybe people had more RESPECT for life back then. I do agree that this will continue UNTIL we can ALL learn to get along with each other and respect each other and our "differences" .. and that means ALL generations. We need to be able to get along with one another in order to share space with each other. If we ALL tried just a little harder to be nice to people we meet on the street, at the store, at work, on the road .. people may just respond, and pass it on to the next person. We NEED to change our attitudes, AND pay attention to one another.

actually there are cases where things like this happened. But understand, we live in an era that news becomes instantaneous. People didn't carry cellphones, there was no texting. We didn't have twitter and Facebook. We didn't have the ability to video chat with people in Australia. Times have changed for the good and bad in many ways, but it changes.
