Ellen Pompeo: Katherine Heigl's Return To 'Grey's Anatomy' Is Unlikely (VIDEO)

Ellen Pompeo is downplaying the rumors about Katherine Heigl returning to "Grey's Anatomy."

The actress stopped by "Chelsea Lately" (weekdays, 11 p.m. EST on E!) to promote the ABC medical drama. When she wasn't talking tequila and making out on camera, Pompeo was shooting down the rumors that her former co-star Heigl seemingly started while promoting her film "One For the Money."

"So wait, what's going on? Is Katherine Heigl coming back to the show?" Handler asked Pompeo.

"I don't think so," Pompeo said, shaking her head.

Handler pressed further and Pompeo said, "No, I don't think that's happening."

During her January press tour, Heigl said she was ready to return to "Grey's Anatomy," and told the powers that be at the series that she wants to come back.

"I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is," Heigl told E! "I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now."

Pompeo's comments come as Season 8 of "Grey's Anatomy" -- and her contract with the show -- come to a close. Both Pompeo and co-star Patrick Dempsey have been vocal about their desire to remain with the series, while remaining vague.

"I would never turn up my nose at 'Grey's' ... If I hear from the fans that they want us to keep going, then I would continue because we owe them everything," Pompeo told TV Guide in October.

Kathrine doesnt diserve to be on greys anatomy. She said her self that she didnt have a good enough part to when an award.

I dont watch that show but I dont know why Ellen Pompeio is not a giant star. How come she is not doing big movies? What ever happened to Jennifer Garner? She was in that body switch movie which was funny and then I havent heard from her?

I still watch, out of some masochistic desire to see it through, but I have no desire to see KH back on the show. Her publicity tour, with her child, was so desperate it was uncomfortable to watch. She wants to see where the character is? BS. She wants to try to redeem herself to the public--if they take her back she can't be all that bad, right?--and she needs to generate some interest in herself professionally. The books her new movie is based on seem to be adored, so after seeing clips from the movie I can only guess that she was a spectacular disappointment. Out of context, but she was terrible in those clips.

Did she really think that they would take her back after everything she said. What !!! is she nuts ???
Look what she has done since she left Grey....really nothing. I think you could almost say she's been black listed.

I liked it earlier on when there were a number of exotic characters for a majority production. It was as light hearted with a little complexity as the early Ally McBeal was. When the writers or ptb decided their roles needed to be cut back and they needed to play up Dempsey and Pompeo, the question was what is the point.

It isn't fun anymore.

Must be season 10 or 11 now. I kind of stopped watching during my freshman years but I kept seeing pics online so I know the show's still going strong.

Ellen Pompeo's name would sound so much better if it was french. Hélène Pompéaux.It would totally be edgy and classy.
