Posted: 03/ 1/2012 8:54 am

Phylicia Rashad is returning to TV. The "Cosby Show" star has signed on to appear in NBC's "Do No Harm," according to TV Guide. In the show -- a modern day take on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde -- Rashad will play Dr. Vanessa Young, the chief of surgery and boss to the show's main character Dr. Jeffrey Kohl.

Steven Pasquale plays Dr. Kohl, a neurosurgeon who has a dangerous alter ego he previously could keep in check with medicine. TV Guide describes Rashad's character as Dr. Kohl's greatest champion who "calls things like she sees them." Alana De La Garza of "Law & Order" and "Law & Order: LA" fame is also scheduled to star in the medical drama.

Meanwhile on ABC, David Arquette will star in "The Smart One," Portia de Rossi's new sitcom. According to TVLine, Arquette will play Buddy, the husband to Malin Akerman's character, Candy. De Rossi plays Jude, the intelligent sister who comes to help Candy, the not-so-intelligent sister. Jean Smart plays the matriarch.

Arquette can next be seen in Season Three finale of "Cougar Town," which stars his somewhat estranged wife Courteney Cox.

In other casting news ...

Elizabeth Perkins will play mom to Sarah Chalke.
The former "Weeds" star will appear opposite the "Scrubs" veteran in "How To Live With Your Parents For the Rest of Your Life," in which Chalke plays a recent divorcee who moves back in with her parents. [TVLine]

"Princess Bride" star Cary Elwes is taking another stab at TV.
Elwes will appear opposite Kal Penn in ABC's "Prairie Dogs." Elwes starred in NBC's failed "Wonder Woman" pilot last year. [EW]

Christopher Lloyd will appear opposite John Leguizamo in ABC's "Only Fools and Horses."
The "Back to the Future" star will play the grandfather to two brothers. [TVLine]
