MEDAN, Indonesia -- Police in western Indonesia say they are questioning a teacher after she accidentally crashed her car into students, injuring more than a dozen, including 15 kindergartners.

Lt. Col. Pranyoto, a deputy police chief in the city of Medan in North Sumatra province, says the 22-year-old teacher was backing out of her parking space inside the school grounds Friday when she slammed into a group of kindergartners doing their morning exercises. Her car then hit a wall where two junior high school students were passing by.

Pranyoto says it appears that the teacher – identified only as Marini – got the gas pedal and the brake mixed up.

At least 15 kindergartners and two junior high school students were hospitalized, some with head wounds and broken bones. Three were in critical condition.
