Brad Dayspring, top aide to Majority Leader Eric Cantor, abruptly resigned from his position Friday, Politico reports.

“Brad has decided to move on,” Cantor Chief of Staff Steve Stombres told Politico. “He has been a valuable member of our team and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Dayspring helped Cantor rise in the Republican ranks by using aggressive tactics and embracing both new and old media. The New York Times labeled Dayspring "Cantor's Rasputin of retort" thanks to his quick Twitter responses to Obama's speeches.

Before working for Cantor, Dayspring worked for then-House Budget Chairman John Kasich (R-Ohio) and held a position in the White House during George W. Bush's presidency.

UPDATE: According to National Journal, Dayspring will leave to join a super PAC aimed at raising and spending money for House Republican candidates.
