Arnold Schwarzenegger Divorce: Talks Co-Parenting With "Terrific Mother" Maria Shriver

In an interview posted online Monday, Arnold Schwarzenegger dished to "Extra's" Mario Lopez about co-parenting with estranged wife Maria Shriver.

The former California governor told Lopez that he's been "spending a lot of time on [his] personal life, making sure the children grow up well-adjusted and that they get a great education."

"Luckily, Maria has been a terrific mother," Schwarzenegger added. "We work together even though we're going through a divorce... we make sure that the kids grow up to be really good human beings."

Despite their dramatic split, the New York Post alleged last week that Schwarzenegger and Shriver had been attending couples counseling in an attempt to stave off divorce. The same day, TMZ photographed the couple having lunch and shopping for furniture in L.A. -- possibly for Shriver's new $12.2 million dollar Brentwood home, which she reportedly moved into in late February.

Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011, nearly two months after allegations emerged that Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with former household staffer Mildred Baena. The couple were married in April 1986 and have four children together.

Only a man blinded by his own ego would have failed to notice this. You think you married a Kennedy. Take a good look at her. Ok the man cheated on her...so what. I hope that she asked herself what part she played in it all. Was she as supportive as she could have been...he was in recovery after all. I remember well when I learned that my ex was cheating on me....I was furious but then I was asked if I was also being honest..what part of things did I play in it all. turned out when I was honest that I was 50% guilty. We did patch things up at that time and finished raising the kids and got them out of the house but then we figured out without the kids we no longer had anything. We divorced and are friends now. None of us know what really went on in the home....we don't need to judge until our own lives are clear of wrong doing.

The "Procreator" strikes again! Arnold may just do enough schmoozing to get Maria back. The Kennedy's have a long history of woman suffrage and forgiveness. She may be thinking about how she could manage the scary prospect of being single parent, famous, rich but leery of starting a new relationships. At least with Arnold she knows what she gonna get. I disagree with the rude comments that say Maria had no self respect. Rich women, catholic women, lots of women have put up with certain things (as have many men) because the overall benefit of the family was more important to them than their "pride"

Also Maria is a very intelligent woman from a family and a social set with a lot of this stuff going on over the years. She is smart enough to know she married Arnold, not some milque toast flunky, and to know what comes with that.

In this case, she had known the maid in her own home, and known the child since birth, and it all went public. THAT is a lot different than Arnold messing with a tootsie on the film set.

But in general, I hear WOMEN giving the wives in these situations too little credit, and portraying them simply as victims.

Maria is a sweet woman but IMO she has the self respect of a noodle and she's a terrible example for women. She was clueless about the running of her own home, for years. Wow. Arnold's previous accusers were discounted by Maria so in essence she called those women liars in public. We now know the true nature of Arnold's character and since I do not think Maria is stupid she knows his character too. She sure as h*ll knows it now. She isn't the woman she "pretends" to be IMO. I'm very disappointed.

It's easy to take potshots. Maria is highly intelligent. She may or may not have known of his indiscretions or turned a blind eye. Given she is a devoted Catholic, I would imagine for her that divorce means turning her back on everything she believes spiritually. On top of that she is very family oriented. For her to file for divorce is not like the "normal" person filing. Today, people file for divorce without putting much effort in. For Maria, it must have felt like the end of everything she believes in. So his behavior became so egregious she could no longer live with the pain and humiliation. She deserves better than him, but ultimately she's the one that has to live with the consequences of reconciliation, if that were to happen.

I understand the "superstitious morality" of religion and I also think that is what's happening, it's weak. I disagree that this is "for the children" though I think that's the "spin" she believes. Who wants to train their children to to tolerate and accept this type of behavior. If the roles were reversed do you honestly think a man would "stay for the children", h*ll no, he'd leave (statistics prove this) thus showing his children that self respect is of utmost importance, it's who we are. I also love Hillary Clinton but her staying with Bill was really disappointing. Elin Woods? That's an example of a woman, a woman I respect and want to know!
