More evidence to banish the stereotype of post 50s as Luddites who need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age: SeniorHomes.net recently produced an infographic titled "State of the Baby Boomer" with some surprising insights on how the demographic approaches technology.

Between 2010 and 2011, for instance, there was a 109 percent increase in people 55+ who visited a social networking site from a mobile device. In addition, one-quarter of smart phone users are 55 or older, with iPhones proving most popular among members of the demographic. Post 50s are also the fastest growing group of online daters.

Post 50s are also a culturally literate bunch, making up two-thirds of visitors to art and history museums. Check out the infographic below for more surprising revelations about midlifers (along with a video of 3 tips for online dating beginners.)

I bought a smart phone so I could play on-line scrabble....This in an effort to make sure I exercise my brain and to keep those neurons keep firing properly....

Oh, and now there is Words With Friends, a kinda cool and simplified version of the more purist scrabble...You can play with friends, only I don't have any facebook friends, so I play Words with Random Friends. It's better that way. I don't need to know who I'm beating.

I often fix high school students' smart phones for them. I don't do social networking (HuffPost Social News aside).

Frankly, I like it. It allows me a much better opportunity to learn about a person and whether I want to meet her or not. It is an opportunity to be very direct about things that can be uncomfortable surprises after two people start spending time together.
