LeBron's Mom Gloria James Avoids Jail Time For Attack On Fontainebleau Valet

LeBron James' mother will not be seeing jail time for allegedly slapping a valet at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach last year.

Gloria James struck a deal with prosecutors, who dropped a battery charge as she agreed to serve 20 hours of community service and donate $1,000 to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, NBC Miami reports.

The 44-year-old Miami Heat mom was arrested in April 2011 after reportedly becoming upset over how long it took valet Rockfeller Sorel to bring her car to the hotel entrance. Surveillance video (above) shows an unsteady James swinging her purse and eventually falling; police noted she had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and was uncooperative.

Prosecutors will also drop a disorderly intoxication charge if James completes the community service, according to the Associated Press. She was previously arrested in 2006 in Akron, Ohio for drunken driving and disorderly conduct.

LeBron James, who was not with his mother during the altercation, told reporters hours later it was important to "move forward...You try not to let it be a distraction. I have a job to do, still. It’s very sensitive because it’s your mother. Of course to have an incident, it’s very sensitive. But the people around me are helping me."
