In the wake of the announcement that the late Whitney Houston's only child Bobbi Kristina will sit down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey, LaToya Jackson shared her thoughts on the subject on "The Talk" (weekdays, CBS). It will be the 18-year-old's first sit-down interview since her mother tragically died at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Feb. 11, the evening before the 2012 Grammy Awards.
When LaToya Jackson's brother Michael died in 2009, his three children sat down with Winfrey as well. "I know that when my brother passed, people were very interested in what happened," she told the women of "The Talk" about what led them to agree to the interview. "And if you don't give it to them right away, people will start making up rumors and saying all sorts of things so it's better to nip it in the bud."
Jackson added: "Oprah definitely wanted the kids involved ... I was just a nervous wreck and they would act as if he was still here ... So that helped me a great deal from listening to them. And doing that, [in] speaking out, that make them stronger actually."
Winfrey's interview with Bobbi Kristina will air on "Oprah's Next Chapter" on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Houston's brother Gary and her sister-in-law and manager Patricia Houston will reportedly also be involved in the TV special, which is scheduled to air March 11.
