Alex Trebek Pronounces 'Tobias Funke' In Most Pretentious Way Possible On 'Jeopardy!' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/ 6/2012 3:43 pm Updated: 03/ 7/2012 7:54 am

Alex Trebek just blue himself.

The "Jeopardy!" host is known for pronouncing words in non-English languages in accordance with their native accents, which can come off as either wildly charming or unbearably pretentious, depending on your point of view. But he really outdid himself by pronouncing the name of Tobias Fünke, the resident analrapist of "Arrested Development" with a confusing accent that must be heard to be believed.

Clearly, contestant Nina Stanton is a bigger fan of "Arrested Development" than Trebek -- she immediately answered the question correctly.

I know it's not PC but I have to ask, "Who told this woman that what she was wearing and her hairdo looked good enough to be seen by millions? I believe if I was this lady, I would be looking very hard for this person and it wouldn't be to say thanks.

Why are all these folks who have clearly never seen the show commenting on this? If you don't get the references, that's fine, but don't correct others on things you know nothing about.

I read somewhere that Alex and Sean Connery are arch enemies. Or maybe I just dreamt it.

Are you confusing the show with SNL sketches?

He just pronounced it in German (it's a German name). I can't believe someone thought this was interesting.

Or she can read. There's that possibility.

I'm always surprised and irritated when people who write for a living use the word "fail" as a noun.

The word to use is "failure."

Years ago on a state capitol question- the state was South Dakota. The answer was "What is PIER?" Which is how South Dakotan's pronounce 'Pierre'. He called it a wrong answer and said no it was "Pea-air". That person ultimately lost that day and really should have won. It made me realize he didn't know everything an he really should have rehearsed some.
