After speaking for nearly four hours, Hugo Chavez, the prolix President of Venezuela, managed to put his Minister of Education, Maryann Hanson, to sleep during a cabinet meeting.

The South American leader is known for having a lot to say.

His weekly television program, Alo Presidente (Hello, Mr. President) -- in which he answers calls from constituents live and expounds on his latest policies -- runs for five to six hours.

Yes, he's lost some popularity...Dec 2011 his approval rate has plummeted to 54%, despite concerns about his health.

Yeah, a lot of Venezuelans are sick of his policies and of him but I think the health problems are part of his plummeting polls. Some say he won't make it by the time the election is over and this crushes the confidence of his people in him.

Brevity seems to be a virtue of which some liders are utterly free. I have heard that Fidel Castro is saying his lasts 250,000 words, even as we speak.

Man! I'd like to know what hair regrowth Chavez is using! The last time I saw him he was bald! Those Cuban doctors must be really good!

Hugo has had his share of slurs toward women in the past.

"The South American leader is known for talking a lot and having little to say." seems more accurate to me.

so Chavez is the cure for free speech, fair elections, political opposition, and now insomnia. What kind of leader puts himself on TV for four hours? You know darn well those questions are heavily censored.

Taking a nap has always been the modus operandi of the US Congress . Back in the days when the Cspan cameras were on all the time the lobbyist had to wake up some members to give them their checks . Since then Congress posted a ruling "No more handing out checks in view of the cameras" .

Fidel Castro is also famous for his 5-6 speech, along with Joseph Stalin.

Dangerous not to listen to them, woe to the person who didn't clap enough, loud enough or long enough.

I should be careful about what I say, I might give Dear Leader Obama some ideas for his next laws that needs to be passed.

That is how you recognize a dictator, they never change.

Very good chance that Maryann Hanson might disappear some day and never be seen again.

The joys of living in a Worker's Paradise with The Benevolent Hugo Chavez as the Glorious Leader.

Let's hope she is only sleeping. Check to see if she has a poison dart in her neck.

there is a parody twitter account called @chavezofficial which invented a verb after the sleeping minister called #hansoning and lots of people sent similar photos of people falling asleep in the most curious poses... lots of fun.
