At HuffPost, we're kicking off an exciting new project and we'd love you to participate! It's called "The Moment I Knew," and is a user-submitted video series where readers tell the stories of life-changing moments they have experienced. Each section of HuffPost has chosen a different theme -- whether it was the moment you knew you were in love, the moment you knew your marriage was over, the moment you knew you loved college, or the moment you knew you were broke. You can also tell us about any other life-defining moment you'd like to share. The possibilities are endless!

Here on HuffPost Black Voices, we've suggested that you tell us about "The Moment I Knew 'Black Is Beautiful.'"

It's really easy to contribute! You can create your video using YouTube or Vimeo and send the link/URL of the video to themomentiknew@huffingtonpost.com. If you create your video using your laptop or mobile phone and have a video file, please attach the file in an email to themomentiknew@huffingtonpost.com. Your video submission is subject to our User Terms. Please make sure to include your full name with your video submission. Each video should be 30-60 seconds long, and should feature only you, speaking right into the camera telling your story. Please start your story with the words "The moment I knew..."

We can't wait to hear from you! And if you have any questions, please email themomentiknew@huffingtonpost.com.

I thought about commenting on this one but held off for a while. It is not like me to be patient at all. Of course I have known that Black is Beautiful...was sort of born that way. I dated someone for 4.5yrs who had race issues. Low and behold, way after we had broken up, he went after a black woman. So one time he says "I did not know Black was beautiful" and they lived happily ever after. Meanwhile, in case you dare ask, I only date white. Ain't that funny! Yes, black is beautiful and even Sir Churchill said it once. Peace....MLN

Wow, I've always known black is beautiful, but then again I grew up in Nigeria. There are a lot of things wrong with my country, after all I'm in US now, but I had a great childhood. We were well-off, I wasn't surrounded by a majority that didn't look me, and wasn't exposed to any cultural subtext that made me hate the color of my skin/develop an inferiority complex. Do African Americans have to come to this realization (that black is beautiful) gradually, or is this vblog just offensive? How sad either way!

I've always believed black was beautiful.

Years ago in Ebony magazine I read American blacks came in about 35 shades of skin color from a scientific study compared to white folks come in 4 basic shades. Then I started looking at blood related family and black friends; it was true we do come in different shades. The black models of women and men bring the fact home too we are some pretty people; some of their features and skin smoothness is envied by non whites. Those moments I knew black is beautiful.

You're kidding, right?

Was it ugly before?

Assuming prior to self realization that black was beautiful-was it ugly? This project you are launching speaks volume to the old stereotypes of 'ugly and black'. The opposite of beautiful is ugly, right. I don't like the project and am tired of black folk having to define or find or discover or realize that they/ we are suddenly beautiful.

ABSOLUTELY! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! "The Moment I Knew?" Hell, I've ALWAYS known black IS beautiful! Even from a little girl in the 50s and 60s! And people HAVE to notice that little black boys have the most beautiful eyes and eyelashes. Ahhhhh!!! My sister used to tell my son all the time, "give me those eyelashes. you're a boy, you don't need them". I think that every time I look a little black boy.
